IN PERSON
Inspiration
We wanted to raise awareness to the problems that trash collecting in water systems can cause to the environment. We incorporated ideas from "bullet hell" games, but instead of combat, being passive and trying to fix issues caused by the garbage.
What it does
Helps players understand an aspect of environmental pollution, using a fun and tense setting to create a sense of urgency.
How we built it
We created the game in the game engine Unity, and coded the scripts using C#. The art was created with Procreate, the sound effects with Audacity, and we used GitHub for source control and collaboration.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to created a relatively short gameplay yet impactful experience that left an impression on the player. We had to plan a strong core gameplay loop that was fun and meaningful to convey a clear message.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Balancing the difficulty of the game while having a boss, mobs, side tasks, and still keeping the gameplay relevant to the theme of the game was something we are very proud of.
What we learned
Using unity, and more specifically technologies like shaders, noise, raycasts, and line renders. We also increased our understanding of Vector math.
What's next for Sewer Savior
Possible post launch polish! We are very proud of the idea and would be open to expanding it a bit.
