Inspiration

Last year I have revealed for myself Tchibo as an e-commerce platform. I have been searching for the presents for 4 people. Due to a rich articles choice I spent aroung 3 hours while I was looking for the ideas of presents. So I thought, if Tchibo would recommend me a personalized set of presents for a certain person, it would have saved me a lot of time. One another "nice to have" feature for me would be a storage of sizes which perfectly fit to family members, because for a new search I need to recap this information again from the previous shopping.

What is the core functionality of Tchibo Family Circle?

  • to build personalized listings with presents ideas for a certain person;
  • to remind in advance about upcomming occasion;
  • to store the information about sizes that fit to a family member;
  • to take into account a delivery time before occasion;
  • to give a hint what of the items can be bought right now at store or in supermarkets (REWE, Edeka or Budni) during regular shopping.

How we built it

Tchibo Family Circle feature has been introduced via two components Api and web app to demonstrate the general idea. Tchibo Family Circle Api provides a possiblity to set up information per each family member and build a personalized listings of presents.

Challenges we ran into

TchiboArticlesApi is a little bit slowly and doesn't allow to perform a complex search by attributes and categories.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A personalized suggested listings contain different items that belong to different Tchibo online services. For example, not only regular goods, but Tchibo Flowers, Tchibo Travels and Tchibo Online Courses.

What's next for Shopping experience

The next step for this feature could be an automatic order of top 3 articles for a family member upon an occasion that perfectly match criteria as a potential present.
