Inspiration

One of our teammate friends cracked a job interview and had to sign legal documents, thankfully he had a lawyer to analyze the binding documents but not everybody has that luxury. Thus, analyzing many consensuses, We were inspired by the alarming reality that 91% of consumers don't read the Terms & Conditions. This oversight leads to people unknowingly agreeing to auto-renewals, hidden fees, and waiving their rights. On average, individuals lose $347 annually due to such traps. Signed & Trapped? was created to make legal language understandable, promote transparency, and help users sign with confidence.

What it does

Signed & Trapped? AI-powered legal document analyzer which is gamified that can: -Scans legal documents and translates complex legal jargon into plain English.

Teaches legal awareness through interactive scenarios and instant AI feedback.
Rates contracts using a scoring system based on Transparency, Risk, Complexity, and Fairness—giving users a quick understanding of what they’re signing.

How we built it

Frontend: Built using React.js & Tailwind CSS for a fast, interactive user interface. Backend: Developed with Flask to handle API requests and data processing. AI Integration: Implemented Cohere for NLP, Pinecone for vector search, and used Google Cloud with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) for enhanced document analysis and intelligent responses.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating diverse AI technologies such as NLP, semantic search, and generative models into a single cohesive experience.
Initially, we didn't have Canadian legal data for our Vector DB, To create it, We had to research to get all the legal data.
Designing gamified learning that keeps users engaged while delivering accurate legal insights.
We had a Github commit issue that lost our whole backend code and we had to code again the whole backend.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built an AI-powered legal assistant that breaks down contracts into easy-to-understand language.
Designed a fully functional educational platform that combines usability, interactivity, and practical legal help.
Seamlessly integrated multiple advanced technologies into a stable and scalable product.

What we learned

Legal education becomes far more accessible when supported by AI and user-focused design.
People are eager to learn legal literacy—if it’s presented in a fun and digestible format.
A complex domain like law can be simplified and demystified with the right blend of tech, UX, and empathy.

What's next for Signed & Trapped?

Smarter AI: Train more advanced models for deeper understanding and wider contract coverage.
Global Expansion: Localize the platform to support different legal systems and languages worldwide.
API Integration: Partner with LegalTech platforms to integrate our analysis and scoring engine for broader adoption.
Collaboration with legal consulting companies and Job recruitment firms like LinkedIn and other places where legally binding documents are signed without a lawyer's presence.
