Inspiration
Most neuromuscular diseases are currently incurable, however research toward many such diseases is progressing at a breakneck pace (for example, SMA). Because many patients only have annual check-ins with their neurologists, they often learn of novel treatments months or sometimes years after they are introduced. Moreover, when they begin to take those treatments, they rely on neurologist visits to assess treatment efficacy and side effects in intervals spanning months.
We propose a tool that can constantly update patients on the latest research in their disease, as well as something that can continually monitor the efficacy of drugs that the patient takes.
What it does
A platform compatible with most IoT devices. It uses our patented data model to monitor the physical activity and motor skills of SMA patients, helping Doctors monitor the efficacy of Physical and Occupational therapy in SMA patients.
Two-way disease management platform
Real-time monitoring with wearable device
Data analytics dashboard for healthcare providers
How we built it
Front-end development using html, css and javascript
Back-end development using python
Biosensor development using C++
Challenges we ran into
We are an international team and not all of us are awake at the same time, arranging meetings and communication was a challenge. We have overcome that with effective communication and planning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We came up with a polished idea, developed a business plan, and built a working prototype.
What we learned
We learnt a lot about neuromuscular diseases and how to collaborate and work effectively as a team.
