Inspiration

We were inspired by everyday safety issues in Bellevue where cars block sidewalks, bike lanes, hydrants, and bus stops. These situations put pedestrians, cyclists, seniors, and emergency access at risk, and current reporting methods are slow and underused.

What it does

SNAP & REPORT is an AI powered app that lets residents take one photo of unsafe parking or illegal idling. The system detects the plate, identifies the issue, captures location and time, and submits the report for city review. Verified reports earn a share of the fine.

How we plan on building it

We will build a mobile app for submitting incident reports and a web dashboard for advertisements and instructions. The app uses the phone camera and GPS. AI analyzes images, detects violations, and blurs faces for privacy.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing automation with fairness was our biggest challenge. We will have to design strong privacy protections and prevent misuse while keeping the experience simple.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building a safety focused solution that is easy to use, protects privacy, and supports accessibility. We also created a clear flow from photo to action.

What we learned

We learned that real civic problems require careful design around ethics, trust, and community impact, not just technology.

What's next for SNAP & REPORT

We plan to improve AI accuracy, support more violations, and test with real users and city partners.
