Inspiration
We were inspired by the good old fashioned piano games that we had grown up playing. As time went on, these games faded into obscurity finding themselves in different media platforms such as more complex rhythm based games. We wanted to bring our favorite childhood mobile addiction back but with a new Blockchain twist.
What it does
The game itself is a speed based piano tiles game that rewards users for increased accuracy as well as speed as opposed to following traditional rhythms. We though this would lean more into the competitive side and also open itself up for more blockchain oriented possibilities.
How we built it
To create the music compiling software, we had to map each note in each octave to its own index and associate it with a position on the map for the user to then click and simulate the feeling of playing an actual piano, with only 4 keys. To connect it with the blockchain, we incorporated a lot of the techniques provided to us by the team representing Solana at the hackathon and found the workshop to be extremely pivotal in our development of this project.
Challenges we ran into
A big component of piano tile games is the issue of latency and ensuring the user experience is smooth and predictable. We had to tinker with the timing and the way it interacted with the blockchain to ensure that we could live up to the promises of a smooth and blistering quick performance.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to present a finished product despite walking into this not even aware that games could be created using blockchain. We have all come out especially impressed with our ability to tackle this vast new concept and apply it on top of our pre-existing experiences.
What we learned
We came into this project with minimal knowledge of blockchain and Solana but feel that now upon completion of this product, we are more knowledgable not only about the technology but the industry and the people behind it as a whole. We are proud of our growth throughout the course of the past 2 days and are really excited to see how we can grow even further alongside this ever expanding technology.
What's next for SolSymphony
As we have already made the software to convert musical notes to the tiles and create songs for our application. We plan to create a music creation functionality where users can create their own levels made with their own songs and allow all other users to play it. This would be a marketplace using blockchain using Sol to sell and buy levels to play.
