Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project is to help people in need while traveling through space. It is about a 40-minute delay from earth to the moon when communicating so getting people the help they need faster is something very important in our eyes.
What it does
Space Medic uses hardware to monitor vitals. Machine Learning algorithms predict medical conditions like a heart attack. A list of possible medical and first aid guides is provided to look up medical conditions, terms, and tools. Space Medic keeps track of medical supplies and returns the location, amount, and name of the supplies for easy accessibility in case of an emergency. We developed space exercises since the workouts on Earth on different due to different gravitational forces. In the workouts, there is a feature where you can have your own Walkamon. A Walkamon is a virtual pet that grows as you work out. The more you work out, exercise, and get stronger, so does your Walkamon!
How we built it
We used Figma for the design framework of our app. We then exported to Android code so we can add our Google Cloud and Linode databases. Google Cloud uses the built-in Machine Learning platform with Jina to create a neural network that can offer suggestions on how to properly treat a medical emergency. We developed a Machine Learning algorithm that is trained to detect changes in vitals and offer an early diagnosis for potentially life-threatening medical needs. Linode hosts a web server on Qualcomm Dragonboard hardware with multiple cores to store user data including workout progress, medical supplies, and progress towards other planets.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into were exporting from Figma as well as integrating Linode into the project. This was our first time using Figma so it took some getting used to. As well as using cloud base storage to keep track of all people currently in space.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud that we made a functioning app the first time using Figma. Another accomplishment was working together as a team to come up with the idea quickly and efficiently so we had plenty of time for working out the issues we ran into.
What we learned
While working through the various software we learned how to make an app using Figma as well as importing various software into the mobile app. Another thing we learned was how to work more efficiently as a team.
What's next for Space Medic
The next steps for Space Medic would be to import more data into the health guide section as well as determining the correct weights to workout with when on various planets.
