Inspiration

The idea for Speak Savvy emerged from the realization that modern university lectures often fail to engage students. Observing the drastic drop in attendance from the start to the end of a semester, it became evident that the issue lies not in students' interest or dedication but in the way lectures are delivered. Despite the enormous value placed on education, with the Australian education industry worth $144.8 billion in 2023, there's a clear need for more engaging and effective teaching methods.

What it does

Speak Savvy is an AI-powered platform designed to provide lecturers with personalized and detailed feedback on their lectures. Lecturers can upload their lecture links to the platform, where AI analyzes the content and provides feedback on key criteria measuring lecture quality. This feedback log helps track the improvement of lectures over time, leading to more engaging and effective teaching, better student retention, and improved academic performance.

How we built it

We developed Speak Savvy using a combination of advanced AI and machine learning algorithms to analyze lecture content. The platform was built with a user-friendly interface that allows lecturers to easily upload lecture links and receive detailed feedback. We focused on creating a robust backend that could handle large amounts of data and provide accurate, actionable insights to help lecturers improve their teaching methods.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was developing AI algorithms that could accurately analyze lecture content and provide meaningful feedback. Ensuring the platform was user-friendly and could seamlessly integrate with various university systems also posed significant challenges. Additionally, collecting and processing a large volume of data while maintaining privacy and security standards was crucial.

What we learned
