Inspiration

We were all inspired by the adventure track and the constraint of having a space theme for FullyHacks this year. We all enjoy traveling, and since one of us had to take Calculus-based Physics III, they told us a fun fact: When you travel close to the speed of light, you age "backwards" (think Interstellar). With that we created a service for when we are able to travel at those speeds and visit planets we cennot visit in-person in our day and age.

What it does

The idea sis very simple. We built a web-based application that pulls data from NASA's Exoplanet Archive, with a particular call for two categories of planets: one that is habitable right now and one that has candidates for terraforming.

How we built it

We all didn't have much experience outside class creating projects, so we relied on workshops and starter packs. Then we just worked fast and broke things (a bunch of times) until we came up with our MVP.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest problem was learning to navigate using AI and learning entirely new languages and integration techniques. Ultimately, it was hardest to integrate the front end with the back end and get beyond hardcoding the details.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud that we created a working backend and frontend. This seems simple, but the development stages went thru many iterations.

What we learned

We learned to collaborate and function with strangers and give our respective strengths to make the best project possible.

What's next for StarBnB

We want to integrate some OpenAI functionality to give the user the steps for terraforming a planet that is eligible for such. We also want to make a better user experience. But, thinking with AirBnB as our "north star", the sky is not even our limit 👨🏾‍🚀🚀
