Disclaimer
Stick Fight is not available to be played or publicly tested as of right now, as we are still going through the phases of polishing and deploying the game. Code is available however, the game isn't yet! :)
Inspiration
We wanted to try and explore the unknown in which the UNKNOWN for us was game development. None of us have experience with it and we thought games are fun and we wanted a project that was FUN. A lot of the inspiration came from our love for Alan Becker videos and playing party games with a group of friends. We decided to combine those and create Stick Fight!
What it does
It's a last man standing game supporting 2-4 players in which each player is given a specific martial art. The players go head to head fighting each other with their own unique styles to become the best fighter of ALL!
How we built it
The game was built using Unity along with the help of our animator and character/map designer. It was programmed using C#.
Challenges we ran into
Some CRAZY challenges we ran into were setting up the local multiplayer feature. Getting 2-4 players using separate controllers (i.e keyboard, PS4 controller, Xbox controller) caused HOURS of pain AND suffering, lol. Another CRAZY challenge was getting the hit boxes to function so combat can be handled properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have started with almost NO game dev experience to creating a fun game within less than 2 DAYS!
What we learned
We learned how difficult game dev is and how a team require a handful of different talents such as animating, design, and programming.
What's next for Stick Fight!
We hope to add player support of up to 6 players, more maps, as well as new martial art styles including but not limited to Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai.
