Inspiration
What came to mind was the stereotype of a high octane day trader, staring at several screens, monitoring the state of the economy and individual companies. We wondered how someone can keep track of all this information at once, and how much mental real estate screens with graphs take. We brainstormed ways to reimagine this experience. This formed Soundwaves.
What it does
Soundwaves allows day traders the ability to monitor stocks without occupying much of their mental capacity unless a the stock fluctuates wildly, just like a how a steady sound wave blends into the background.
How we built it
- Ingestion: We created an ingestion service to acess live data from the markets and simulate live data during periods of market closure. We used the Yahoo Finance API to simulate live data.
- Encoding: We then encoding these stock into musical notes and chords using mathematical distributes and the contruction of sine waves. This allows the app to change pitches and frequencies depending on the stock's performance.
- Display: We implemented and interface to allow users both view and listen to the stock data. The interface is built using Bootstap and the audio is played using the Pygame Mixer
