Inspiration
As a content creator, I often need to plan visual scenes before designing or editing them. I realized that Adobe Express users—especially video editors, educators, and marketers—don’t have an integrated way to storyboard their ideas quickly within the platform. That’s where the idea for Storyboard Maker was born.
What it does
Storyboard Maker is an Adobe Express Add-on that allows users to easily create structured storyboards using customizable grids, placeholder images, and scene descriptions. It's built to help users visually organize their content ideas before jumping into design or production.
How I built it
I started by designing a pitch deck to define the core idea and its user flow. I used the Adobe Express Add-ons Code Playground to prototype UI elements like grid templates, drag-and-drop zones, and caption text fields. This proof of concept shows how Express APIs can be used to generate layouts and organize content blocks.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was validating whether such interactive layout creation is technically feasible within the current Express Add-ons SDK. While full drag-and-drop customization isn't yet fully documented, I designed around existing Express capabilities and planned out the minimal viable features for an initial version.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I’m proud of the clarity of the concept and how well the idea aligns with real user needs. I also created a detailed visual pitch deck and mapped the entire storyboard-building workflow, showing a clear plan for future development.
What I learned
I learned how flexible and developer-friendly the Adobe Express Add-ons platform is. I also gained a deeper understanding of what creators need when planning visual content, and how to design for simplicity without sacrificing power.
What's next for Story board maker
If selected, I plan to develop the full MVP (minimum viable product) version of Storyboard Maker and release it to the Adobe Express Add-ons marketplace. Future plans include supporting templates for video, social media, and education, as well as AI-powered scene suggestions to make storyboarding even faster.
