Inspiration

  • It’s a universal truth that humans crave authentic connection with one another.
  • While today’s technology has enormously optimized our lives in many ways, it has also been a key driver of loneliness

What it does

  • Imagine a world where you can imprint a story in a specific location for someone else to discover later.
  • Our prototype: auditory and abstract using Christen Lien’s music structure broken down into eight narrative components for guided storytelling. Each component is tagged with a music sample and visualization to create a visual and sound "story map".

How we built it

  • We built a prototype on GitHub, but it is not functional, so we are sharing the mockup and the music file we created as a scrappy representation of what one part of the product would look like

Challenges we ran into

  • We didn't have a developer who knew ARKit, so we were unable to build out the mobile app that would be used to create and identify the markers to then experience the story

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • The identification of a key human problem to solve
  • The creation of a product that can solve the problem
  • The design of the product
  • Our team formation, launch, process, and overall culture

What we learned

  • We have found a real problem
  • People want to feel emotion, whether it be through written story or an abstract story
  • We should have come with a developer

What's next for Story Map

  • Use AR markers to create an app that identifies location-based stories written by others
