Inspiration
Being born and raised in the bustling metropolis of Houston, we’re surrounded by small businesses that we visit regularly. Whether it’s a cafe, restaurant or music venue, the comfort these locations bring is unparalleled by any standardized franchise, but there’s an issue: they don’t have the resources they need to bring their services to the entire city.
What it does
The student local adaptation program (S.L.A.P) pairs high level students with local businesses in order to educate the businesses on how to further their digital literacy.
How we built it
Our solution was planned using LucidChart, Google Slides, Photoshop, and HTML/CSS.
Challenges we ran into
It's tough to ensure the process is air-tight when it comes to verifying both parties. Some issues we might run into in the future are email subdomain verifying processes as well as communications with small businesses.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As we are both computer science students, we don't often have to think through business workflows. This project helped us think on a more social level and organize our thought processes differently than we're used to.
What we learned
We learned how to plan a business model that's scalable and includes dynamics we're actually passionate about. We have the skills to build out this project and as we planned it we learned how to use them!
What's next for Student Local Adaptation Program
If the project moves on through this hackathon, we would love to build out a real web app that we could use for universities and businesses all over the United States.
