Inspiration
Many people need are lazy and want to cut the fluff out of reading. We hope to help get people the important bits faster to make their lives easier.
What it does
It is a google extension that scrapes a webpage for its text then outputs a summary of the text
How we built it
Through JavaScript and npm packages that use javascript to scrape and summarize texts
Challenges we ran into
Our project is not finished. Due to the limitations of google chrome extensions, we could not figure out work arounds to get the npm summarize linear and webscraping libraries to work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was our first time ever trying to create a google chrome extension. While it is not functional as intended, the chrome extension itself still is able to be used and retrieves the URL of the webpage you are currently.
What we learned
Learned basics for creating a google chrome extension.
What's next for SumEZ
Getting the functionality of webscraping to summary to work. We also want to be able to take audio files, make it a text, then summarize it. We want to be able to create comprehension questions based off the summary as well as an interface that allows you to save webpages and summaries for future use.
