Inspiration

Summer is my favorite time of the year so naturally, I wanted to go with the theme. I was unsure at first but then I saw Walmart was looking for projects that help with humanitarian causes, and my idea hit me. With my passion for saving the earth and leaving smaller carbon foots prints while helping those in need. It was THE perfect idea...I just had to make it.

What it does

I built an almost functioning e-commerce website..with a twist. We don't sell anything, we swap, or donate! I have all the basics done, the offer page, donation page, and home page. But wait there's more! I also wanted to help the earth even more by allowing my website to be a place to join or host beach clean-ups. It has a lot of functions that I can do but I did not have enough time to make any working databases necessary for others to list their items.

How I built it

I made all my code in Brackets. I primarily used HTML and CSS but I did use some JavaScript. This was my first ever e-commerce website so I used google to help me figure out what layouts looked best and what my options were in terms of time.

Challenges we ran into

This was my first ever website that I made without the help of a structured online class. I had to figure out how to use code I found online to fit into my project. CSS is not my strong suit so going into this I knew little to nothing. CSS alone took probably 65% of my total time. But I knew I had to push myself to make my website look nice.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am so proud of my very first website, it's not perfect, but it is still so amazing. I am so happy I pushed myself to do as much as I could in the time I had. I have gotten a much better understanding of CSS and HTML.

What I learned

I learned how to build different web pages, how to move between them, how to basically build an entire website.

What's next for Summer Swap

I want to make it more functional and learn how to make functional profiles and databases for any information neccesary!
