Inspiration

We started off to build a product that looks at an end-end solution of finding a sustainability benchmark score for users to find out how sustainable their meat production is.

What it does

A software application that takes the feed of data from data sources post analysis to find consumption in terms of energy/lb via heating, ventilation, cooling, lighting. Then we used data to find total feed used over time in combination with total water consumption to calculate energy input. Then we also found total wastage in terms of Co2 and Ammonia excretant to give the farmer an understanding of how much energy is used and how much wastage is created on a per pound basis of meat produced.

How I built it

Using R and Tableau we analyzed data and found the values by creating new columns in the schema. Then the android app is fed this data to show real-time data.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge was defining a scope we could do in a small amount of time. Given the fragmentation of the data, interpreting the use case of the various files and the fit was one of the biggest challenge. Once scope was defined, while working on deliverables we faced challenges on a granular level and found out missing gaps. Nevertheless we speared ahead to create the best possible solution.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We learned so much about AgTech, coding and the crazy amount of energy required to deliver a fully functional product.

What's next for Sustainability Score

Looking forward to working with AGCO to get this in the real world and provide the farmers with this solution. By filling gaps in the system on both ends we believe we can move towards a sustainable tomorrow.
