Inspiration

I was already familiar with the Photo Library APIs and "save space apps", having developed one called "Dedupify". After noticing the growth in popularity, and revenue potential, of an app niche for swiping your camera roll to organise it, I decided to develop my own app to address this audience.

What it does

Swipe2delete helps users easily declutter their camera roll by swiping through photos. Swipe right to keep a photo, left to delete. It simplifies sorting through photos, videos, and screenshots while allowing users to organize their memories in a fun and efficient way. With features like reviewing photos by month or revisiting “On This Day”, users can clean up their gallery while reliving their best moments.

How we built it

I built Swipe2delete using good old UIKit, as I have plenty of experience with it and it allows me to build quickly. RevenueCat for payments of course, Firebase for analytics and Fastlane for delivery.

Challenges we ran into

My wife gave birth to our 3rd child during the development of this app, so the main challenge was finding time to work on it!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm quite happy with the apps UI/UX. I feel that it is a clean design and easy to use.

What we learned

Its amazing what you can build with just 30 minutes a day, and how you can focus when you have an extremely limited time window to get stuff done.

What's next for Swipe2delete

  • More categories, such as Screenshots, Large Videos and Blurry Photos
  • More re-engagement notifications to remind the user to return each month
  • Improved onboarding
  • Pricing experiments (AB testing)
  • Localization
  • iPad support
