Inspiration
TerpStrong was born out of a simple yet powerful idea - to help students prioritize their health and fitness, without compromising on their academic commitments. As students ourselves, we understand the challenges of juggling school assignments and maintaining a workout routine. Our team recognized the need for a centralized app that would offer easy access to a wide range of workout instructions and tips, all in one place. With TerpStrong, we aim to empower students to build a healthy lifestyle that will sustain them beyond their academic years. So whether you're a seasoned gym-goer or a beginner, join us in our journey towards a stronger, healthier Terp community.
What it does
TerpStrong is an all-in-one gym app that provides users with workout information and guides, as well as a logging feature to track progress. It delivers a seamless experience, guiding users through exercises step-by-step and logging their progress so they can see their improvements over time.
How we built it
TerpStrong was built using the latest web development technologies, including the highly popular React framework for front-end, the efficient Express.js for back-end, and the reliable CockroachDB for database management. The use of these cutting-edge tools allowed us to create a robust and scalable application that can seamlessly handle a large amount of data and traffic.
Challenges we ran into
During the initial stages of the project, our team possessed a basic understanding of React for the front-end development. However, we sought to push ourselves further by taking on new challenges that we could overcome during Bitcamp2023. As a result, we decided to implement CockroachDB for managing our database, which posed a significant challenge given that it was our first experience integrating a database into an application. With guidance and assistance from Adryan at CockroachDB, we were able to overcome this challenge and develop an efficient database management system. Our team also effectively tackled minor challenges through strong teamwork, clear communication, and utilizing various resources available on the internet.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have created an app that has the potential to positively impact the lives of University of Maryland students. We are also proud of the user feedback we received, which helped us to continuously improve and enhance the app.
What we learned
Throughout the development process, we learned the importance of collaboration, user feedback, and iteration. We also learned valuable technical skills in React and CockroachDB, which will be useful in future projects.
What's next for TerpStrong
We highly value feedback from both the Bitcamp community and the public, as it helps us to continually improve our app. Going forward, we plan to implement additional features to further enhance the user experience. Our ultimate goal is to create an app that provides a positive and impactful experience for all users, and we are committed to achieving this through ongoing development and refinement.
