I always liked the game Werewolves of millers hollow but you need the cards and a story teller, cant stop midway and so on. Playing this game over text messaging allows you to get rid of the story teller. It also allows for longer games and play without cards.
Text is easier than an app for most people, many of my friends for example dont have smartphanes and everybody should be able to play!
