Inspiration
We wanted to build something for BrickHack7 that can be further developed post-hackathon and is extensible with many APIs.
What it does
A Discord bot listening for programmed commands to retrieve information from different services related to RIT.
How we built it
We rely on documentation and tutorials online. Libraries and tools we used include:
- Discord API and discord.py : to make the Discord bot
- Reddit, Twitter API : to retrieve social media information from RIT's accounts
- beautifulsoup: to webscrape RIT dining website
- heroku, Git/Github: to host Discord bot and website
Challenges we ran into
There were challenges are many kinds, especially as first-years inexperienced:
- too many features, but not experienced enough (we had to learn as we went through)
- navigating Github and making sure we didn't mess up the repository
- sacrificing efficiency and good code so we could at least get something finish (the pain....)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of everything we were able to produced. It may not be the best or the most innovative, but we see that it can be further developed and serve a immense use for RIT Tigers.
What we learned
- how to work remotely with Git
- how to make and host a Discord bot
- working as a team (teamwork makes the dreamwork)
What's next for TigerBot
ADDING MORE FEATURES WITH MORE APIs!
NOTE ABOUT TIGERBOT
When we started out the project, we originally named it ritNotify which in some pictures, the bot is named differently.
