Inspiration
As beginner developers, we aimed to create a straightforward, simple app. As a former waiter, one of the most frustrating experiences was when foreigners didn't tip, often due to unfamiliarity with tipping norms in Montreal. Our solution? A tipping calculator tailored to the country you're visiting.
What it does
TipMate computes the standard tip percentage based on your current location (country). Simply input your dining bill, and it calculates the tip along with the "expected" total meal cost. Enable location services for automatic country detection or, if disabled, use the dropdown menu for manual selection.
How we built it
Using Dart, Flutter, and Xcode.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up our environment provided challenges in understading error messages. Learning the Dart programming language was difficult with limited OOP knowledge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We actually have a simple, finished product.
What we learned
Flutter, Dart, and Xcode basics, along with the importance of task delegation in a team setting.
What's next for TipMate App
Add more features, such as hotel and taxi tipping in foreign countries.
