Inspiration

Content creators face an impossible choice: chase algorithmic trends and lose their authentic voice, or stay true to themselves and risk irrelevance. We saw creators burning out, posting content that didn't feel like "them" just to keep up. TrueU was born from the belief that authenticity and performance shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

What it does

TrueU is your AI brand guardian. It maps your unique voice across five key dimensions (Tone, Authority, Depth, Emotion, Risk), analyzes your content to understand what works, and generates personalized content ideas that perform, without compromising who you are. Upload videos, get insights on why they succeeded, and receive strategic recommendations tailored to your authentic style. It's like having a brand strategist who actually gets you.

How we built it

Built with Next.js 15, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS for a modern, responsive frontend. We integrated Backboard.io to orchestrate AI assistants powered by OpenAI GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet, creating separate threads for profile management and content generation while sharing context through document-based RAG. The memory system uses local JSON storage for privacy, with real-time profile updates triggering AI-powered audience analysis. Focused on progressive disclosure: simple onboarding that reveals powerful features as creators grow.

Challenges we ran into

The thread architecture was complex. Deciding between shared vs. separate contexts for different AI interactions. Change tracking for profile updates required detailed diffing to provide meaningful context to the AI. URL validation across platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) needed robust regex patterns for various formats. Markdown rendering for AI responses required custom styling that maintained brand consistency while staying readable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a 5-dimensional identity system that actually captures creator voice nuance. Built intelligent change tracking that updates target audience analysis automatically when profiles evolve. Implemented beautiful markdown-formatted AI responses that feel polished and professional. Achieved seamless multi-model routing—Claude for identity reasoning, OpenAI for content generation.
