Inspiration
We love the winter! In Texas we don’t get much snow and some of our members originally came from places with more snow. We wanted to create a fun game revolving around a winter olympic sport. We decided on skiing and wanted to make it a more dangerous and fun game than just on a track. Thus our game was made!
What it does
The user plays as a (snowman?) and skis through the level. They must avoid mountains, bushes, trees, and other winter objects. If they hit one, the game ends. The user has to get to the end of the track in the shortest amount of time. The speed of the user increases with time which makes it harder.
How We built it
We used the Unity game engine and C# scripts.
Challenges We ran into
We had some issues with using different versions of Unity. We also initially found it hard to find 3D winter assets to use, but eventually found some.
Accomplishments that We’re proud of
We’re proud of making a fully functional 3D game! Some of our members haven’t done much game development and it was a great learning experience for all of us.
What We learned
This is the first time we’ve made a 3D game in Unity and only the second time for us using Unity. We learned what the differences between 2D and 3D game development are.
What's next for Ultimate Skiing
We want to add a leaderboard so users can record their scores as well as compete against others. We would also like to add more levels with other dangers such as an avalanche. We can add different terrains randomly instead of the same area.
