UniCoin

Inspiration

As we all know, university students are finding it increasingly harder to gain the motivation to study. Considering the fact that scholarships and other awards are out of reach for most students, we asked ourselves how we can provide a financial incentive for students to get good grades in a way that's accessible to everyone.

What it does

Unicoin is an ERC20-compliant cryptocurrency that you can earn by getting good grades. All you need to do is create an account and register with your school information. Unicoin is compatible with metamask and any other standard ethereum-based wallet so that you can transfer, receive and buy goods with Unicoin wherever you are. Unicoin can be transferred between individuals but can also be used to buy textbooks, giftcards, clothing or other items that your school offers.

How we built it

The main language we used to build unicoin was the solidity programming language using the ERC20 standard built on top of the ethereum network. We also used python to connect our Unicoin deployment base onto a webserver where students can interact with it.

Challenges we ran into

This is our first time working with blockchain technology so the biggest difficulty we had was learning how to use solidity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of learning new things about blockchain and that we were actually able to deploy our first cryptocurrency.
