Inspiration

Blind, and those with motor disabilities, who often face barriers in accessing this AI-driven information. Our inspiration is to create an inclusive AI solution that empowers everyone, regardless of their abilities, to seamlessly access and interact with information.

What it does

VAI-BOT enables seamless, natural conversations through its advanced text-to-speech capabilities. Users can engage in interactive dialogues, asking questions, seeking information, or simply enjoying a chat, all with the ease of conversation. VAI-BOT ensures inclusivity by promoting effortless and engaging interactions for everyone.

How we built it

The key features of VAI-BOT include its very own OpenAI API key to embed generative AI. Utilizing this API, we embedded ours into a full-stack web application using React.js, Node.js, Firebase, HTML, and CSS. Along with that, we utilized React's native speech synthesis model to voice out any output from the user. We created a simple interface for the user to interact with and along with that, audio indicating what button was pressed when was implemented.

Challenges we ran into

Connecting all APIs and having a nice flow was very difficult. As we had multiple APIs, during development we had issues of communication not going through disabling output that was generated. Along with that, we had minor issues producing visuals due to faulty node-modules within the repository.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have created VAI-BOT, an AI solution that bridges accessibility gaps and promotes inclusivity in information access. Our accomplishment lies in providing a platform for seamless, natural conversations for all, regardless of abilities.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we honed our skills in both front-end and back-end development, with a particular focus on React.js. We used React.js to craft an engaging and user-friendly interface for VAI-BOT, enabling smooth and natural conversations. Additionally, we navigated the intricacies of integrating various APIs, including OpenAI, to empower VAI-BOT with generative AI capabilities. This required us to establish seamless communication between the front-end and back-end components, which we successfully achieved. This project deepened our expertise in full-stack development, encompassing UI design and API integration for an inclusive chatbot experience.

What's next for VAI-BOT

In the future, we plan to expand VAI-BOT's reach by developing a mobile application using React-Native. This will enable even greater accessibility, allowing users to engage with VAI-BOT from their mobile devices, making inclusive communication and information access more readily available.
