Inspiration

Covid19 is making a negative impact on people's mental health and social lives. That is why we want to make something to promote people's healthy hobbies and social interactions while staying at home.

What it does

VBooker works as a book club, but with much more freedom of genres and wider participation than your local book club. It is a platform for people to sign up for discussion slots for the books they like. After signing up, you can vote for books you want to be featured on the following week, and sign up for discussion sessions. You will then be sent a Zoom link to the discussion meeting.

How we built it

We built the front-end using React.js. We then connected it to Firebase for backend.

Challenges we ran into

None of us have experience with web development, so we had to learn as we worked on it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to build a website with authorization and the functionalities we want.

What we learned

We learned how to use React.js and Bootstrap. We have also improved our git skill. It was a very rewarding experience for all of us.

What's next for VBooker

We will be adding discussion boards for all the featured books, so people who can't attend or book the discussions can still express their opinions and interact with fellow readers.
