Inspiration

We felt ourselves cut off from the cultural knowledge that was typically passed down through family traditions as international students. We had a difficult time learning about Hindu mythology, and conducting internet research became tiresome. The data was dispersed over multiple sources and frequently difficult to comprehend. We came to the realization that many other people, whether they were interested learners, overseas students, or those looking to get back in touch with their heritage, were probably going through something similar. We were motivated to develop VedaX, an app that makes studying Hindu mythology easier, by this revelation.

What it does

The goal of VedaX is to make learning about Hindu mythology approachable and intimate. Users of the app can input their name's initial letter to learn about its significance in Hindu mythology. Users now have a unique relationship to historical narratives and their implications. A "Getting Started" option on the app leads users through a carefully curated database of mythology, books, deities, and other content. No matter where a person is in their mythological journey, this interactive approach to exploration and learning is available to them.

How we built it

Technical development and in-depth research were combined to build VedaX. We began by gathering data about the Vedas, Puranas, and other mythical texts from a variety of sources, then organizing it such that it was easily accessible. All of this data was put into a database, and a straightforward front-end with a search bar and guided learning feature allowed users to engage with the material. To ensure that the app was both user-friendly and informative, the technological components required close attention to the back-end and user experience.

Challenges we ran into

Accurate and diversified information consolidation was one of our main concerns. Hindu mythology is extensive, with numerous interpretations and tales that vary by location and custom. Making sure our content was genuine, courteous, and interesting was a problem. It was also challenging to build an app that strikes a balance between depth and simplicity. To enable users to benefit from both rapid learning and in-depth exploration, we designed the app to be user-friendly without being overly simplistic.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take pride in having been able to transform a personal experience-driven idea into a useful tool that may benefit a large number of people. We were able to rediscover our cultural roots and assist others in finding theirs by founding VedaX. It has been a fulfilling achievement to hear from early testers who connected on a personal level with the app's features.

What we learned

We've gained a great deal of knowledge about app development and the nuances of Hindu mythology over this process. Our proficiency in front-end development, database administration, and user interface has increased. Our comprehension of Hindu mythology, stories, and cultural diversity also deepened, which helped us to comprehend the difficulty of conveying such complex material in an understandable and captivating manner.

What's next for VedaX

In the future, we can't wait to keep growing VedaX. We intend to expand the app's database, offering deeper information layers and more individualized features for users who choose to delve deeper than the surface. In order to further engage users, we also plan to add challenges, storytelling elements, and quizzes to VedaX to make it more interactive. Our objective is to establish VedaX as the go-to resource for engaging and insightful learning about Hindu mythology.
