The App: Union

Union Interviews is an app for businesses to conduct interviews quickly online. The impacts of COVID-19 on businesses inspired us to build this app. We had a few goals in mind:

• Ease of use
• Efficient workflow
• Performance
• Real-world applicability

Technologies

• React & Next.js - We used these frontend frameworks because they are scalable while being quick to code in.
• Express.js & Firebase - We used these frameworks for the backend because they are performant and easy to setup.
• Vonage Video API - We used this API as a scaffolding for our calling system.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulty connecting to the firebase APIs we deployed, due to the lack of debugging supports in place. Also, we had an imbalance of frontend to backend developers, limiting our ability.

Learning Experiences

Through this project, we've learned more soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution. In the field, we learned more about full-stack development. We also learned about Vonage, an awesome API!

What's next for Union

We hope to clean up the backend code and implement more features, such as a live coding pad with remote execution. This will widen our demographic and bring change to more buisinesses.
