Inspiration

"Choose your own adventure", a series of children's gamebooks where each story is written from a second-person point of view, with the reader assuming the role of the protagonist and making choices that determine the main character's actions and the plot's outcome was one of our inspirations to work on "VueQuest". We wanted to build a game where each player will choose their own adventure as the game is based on choices and with every choice the story takes turns. The script is written by ChatGPT and makes use of generative AI.

What it does

It's a multiplayer game that allows passengers to play a game based on the city they are traveling to. By making use of generative AI the adventure of each player is generated based on their choices. In groups of 5 players join the game and then after their choice, everyone goes on a quest to learn more about the famous places/monuments of the city they are traveling to. They can also chat with each other and discuss abt their adventures in VueQuest. All this while being disconnected from any internet. The game has offline chat support and stories generated via ChatGPT are also saved to make it more accessible.

Challenges we ran into

Initial brainstorming and just finalizing the idea was one the most time taking and challenging tasks for us as we all were confused between a couple of sponsor challenges that we wanted to compete in. Apart from this, we faced many technical challenges while working on our game.

  1. Creating a unique, fun, and retro-styled game!
  2. Learning and implementing Unity
  3. Collaborating to pull off this in 36 hrs with almost no sleep

What we learned

Proper sleep is very important! :p Well, a lot of things, both summed up in technical & non-technical sides. Also not to mention, we enhanced our googling and Stackoverflow searching skills during the hackathon :)

What's next for VueQuest

VueQuest is a promising game and a lot can be done to improve it. In the future, we'd like to add more customized quests and provide more options for players to compete with each other. We'd also like to work on UI a bit and make it more interactive and accessible.
