Inspiration
The theme of allocating resources reminded us of our future. Sophomores, we are curious about college life, and our financial situations that lies ahead. We decided to create Wafull to alleviate some of our anxiety about becoming financially independent. It is designed to be simple to help young adults to familiarize themselves with money management and budgeting.
What it does
Walfull is a money management app that clearly sets goals and targets for its users based on their individual needs. With Waffle, users can clearly see their spending goal for each of our 9 categories, which helps them save money. Those categories are housing, transportation, food, utility, insurance, health care, savings/investments/debit payments, and entertainment. Our AI will analyze and offer personalized advice based on your spending habits.
How we built it
At first, we sketched what we wanted our app to look like and brainstormed things we should include in our app. We then transferred our sketch and started prototyping on Figma. One of my team members also started coding with java if this was a real case scenario app.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we had to face was the time difference. Although the competition was being held at 8 am PST time, it was at 10 pm for us in Vietnam. Therefore had to stay up from 10 pm - 6:30 am. Each member of our team was tired and drained out after this competition. However, we were still motivated and dedicated to finishing and producing Walfull.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our determination and prototype of our app Wafull. The prototype gives us insight into how our apps function and what it would look like.
What we learned
We learned to navigate Figma and work together to create a prototype and a working code to demonstrate our idea. Throughout this experience, we also gain more insight to how to deliver a better pitch, create a non-cluttered view of our app, and improve the user's experience when navigating through our prototype.
What's next for Wafull
In the next coming years, Wafull is planning to incorporate a sharing feature into the app. This allows partners and family members to monitor their finances and savings together. We think this is an important step as there has been a rising demand for collaborative management since lockdown.
