Inspiration

Because the effects of the pandemic have led to people isolating themselves at greater levels, mental health has worsened. In fact, about 4 in 10 adults in the US have reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder during the pandemic, which is up from 1 in 10 adults reporting these symptoms from January to June 2019. This is partly due to a decrease in socialization--regular social interaction with other people decreases feelings of loneliness and depression. WalkyTalky promotes both socialization and physical exercise while complying with COVID-19 distancing guidelines.

What it does

Walkytalky is a web platform that allows friends to connect and plan walks together. Users can post their schedule, see their friends, and add their own walks.

How we built it

Walkytalky was built using HTML, CSS, Python, and Flask.

Challenges we ran into

As a relatively inexperienced team, we ran into several challenges. Most significantly, however, was how to allow users to see each other's schedules. Ultimately we solved this by connecting each account to a central database and looking up information through there.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our implementation of flask, and of the hard work in designing the HTML and CSS.
