Watt Spots is an iPhone app just completed that uses federal government data to help electric car owners find car charging stations across the U.S. As a native Detroiter, who grew up loving cars and as a person who has driven a hybrid for six years and who tries to do as much possible to reduce my own carbon footprint, I created the app so people considering purchasing an electric car can do so confident that they can easily find places to quickly charge their cars. The app uses geo location so users can find the closest car charging stations to them and it has a trip planner so they can know where they can get a charge when they are on the road. It divides the stations into publicly accessible stations and those that might be private (such as on a corporate campus). The app was designed in early 2011 and was accepted in the Apple Apps store in August 2011 - so brand new. The Android version is in final development and will be in the Android Marketplace by eary September 2011.
