Inspiration
Since so many of us are stuck at home staring at computers all day, it can be all too easy to neglect mental health and have a complete work-life imbalance. We wanted to make something to help people be able to recognize the harm they do to their body and mind, and get on track to fixing it.
What it does
Whalebeing is an interactive quiz that asks users questions about the state of their mind and body, such as anxiety and sleep levels, and causes them to be aware of the important choices they are making in their life. Based on these answers, it then provides tailored links and resources to help guide the user to have a more balanced and sustainable lifestyle.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, Javascript, and original artwork to create a soothing and interactive user experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of the hardest aspects of our hack was linking the Javascript to interact with the HTML pages, since none of us had experience working with Javascript before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This was many of our first times creating a functional website and developing ideas from start to finish. We were also very happy to be able to collaborate together and effectively split up out work so that everyone worked efficiently and we all had a stake in the final product.
What we learned
All of us definitely learned lots in HTML, CSS, and Javascript from struggling to get all of our contributions to integrate with each other, and we gained lots of experience in teamwork!
What's next for Whalebeing
We definitely want to further develop this website to cover more specific health issues, add more resources (maybe work with some professional doctors!), maybe add a reminder system for users to regularly check in on their mental and physical well-being, and of course to deploy it officially!
Notes
The domain whalebeing.space was registered for this project, but there were DNS issues connecting the domain to the current host so it may take up to 24 hours to update.
