Inspiration

WhatsCookin was made as a concept to help young professionals learn how to cook, help alleviate the loneliness many people face, and meet new people. It was also partially inspired by our love for getting together for a good meal.

What it does

WhatsCookin creates an interface for people to find and interact with people through potlucks and making food together.

How we built it

We built it using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the Google Maps Geocoding API. We also used Figma to show what parts of the service would look like when fully realized on a mobile app.

Challenges we ran into

Figuring out how to assign the technical and non-technical work to each member, deciding what programming languages to use for the application, and identifying each team members’ skills and areas of improvement were all challenges we encountered and overcame during this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The accomplishments our group is most proud of are coding the matchmaking algorithm despite numerous technical hiccups, working together to build a strong concept as a foundation of the project, and learning new concepts throughout the 24 hours.

What we learned

We learned how to work in a time-sensitive setting as well as some skills such as building APIs and Figma diagrams, as well as various other concepts (i.e. presentation skills) through workshops and networking sessions.

What's next for WhatsCookin

After launch, WhatsCookin would aim towards better sponsorships after reaching a larger consumer base as well as additional places where people can suggest ideas and ways to improve (such as a brand Twitter or Instagram account).
