Inspiration

Our pets are like our babies, and we always want to make sure they’re happy and healthy. But life gets busy between work, school, and everything else, it’s easy to forget things like giving them medicine, scheduling a vet appointment, or remembering that Fido needs his paws trimmed soon. We wanted to make something that helps pet owners stay on top of all that without the stress.

What it does

Whiskr keeps everything pet-related in one simple place. You can track vet appointments, store medical records, and even set reminders for medication. It’s an all-in-one dashboard made to make pet care easier and more organized, so owners can spend less time keeping track and more time with their pets.

How we built it

We built Whiskr using React.js for the frontend and hosted it on Cloudflare Pages. For login and saving data, we used Firebase. We also added Google Gemini for AI-powered features and Google Maps API to help users find nearby vets and pet services.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a lot of issues while figuring out which database and hosting service worked best. Switching between Supabase and Firebase took some time, and we had to fix a bunch of backend problems to get everything running smoothly.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re really proud of how the dashboard turned out. It looks clean, it’s easy to use, and it feels good to see everything come together. The design was super important to us, and we’re happy we made something both useful and nice to look at.

What we learned

We learned a lot about teamwork, splitting the work between frontend and backend, staying organized, and communicating clearly. We also learned how to use Cloudflare better, which will help us in future projects.

What’s next for Whiskr

Next, we want to add breed-based care tips powered by Gemini. The goal is for Whiskr to give pet owners smart recommendations based on their pet’s type, pulling info from around the internet to help them take even better care of their furry friends.
