Inspiration
With Wispe, we wanted to create an app that allows people to see their mark on the world and peek into the lives of others, enabling users to look through the experiences of those around them. The loneliness epidemic is a real issue, and we feel that by allowing people to leave messages for one another and respond to them, people can feel interconnected to each other via the human experience.
What it does
Wispe allows users to utilize augmented reality to find hidden messages for each other, then open them and respond to one another. It also enables people to leave their own messages in AR, such as a story about how they met their first crush in that very spot someone else walks by every day. Some of these messages are only accessed by Traveler mode (that is, only accessed where users are currently standing), which encourages them to go out and discover places around them, while the most popular are accessed all over the world via the Global mode. It also allows users to view a collective map at the end of the year of all the messages they've left and the responses gathered from them, prompting users to see visually how much of an impact they've left. Additionally, it allows users to leave private messages that only they can look back on as their own private journaling.
How we built it
We first conducted brainstorming sessions and user research, combining the two to come up with an app that uses AR to communicate with others. We then broke into creating mood boards, affinity diagrams, site maps, and individual low-fidelity sketches to break down our idea, designate features, and determine how to build the app best. Finally, we created our high-fidelity prototype in Figma.
