Inspiration
You breathe in deeply, relaxing to calm your nerves before your CS midterm in ELH 100. As the air passes through your nostrils, you are choked by the musty fragrance of your fellow peers. Starved of oxygen, you wonder how you will stay focused during this exam. This is why we created Zot Showers.
What it does
Zot Showers gives you a personal Peter the Anteater. Every day you don't shower, Peter gets dirtier and dirtier. To keep him feeling fresh and clean, you'll have to log your daily shower in the app. If you keep up your daily shower streak, you'll earn more coins which you can use to purchase accessories for your virtual Peter.
How we built it
We used Flutter to build an Android and iOS application. We chose not to create a backend, because the data is just stored locally on the device.
Challenges we ran into
Our team wasn't familiar with mobile development and most of us had never used Flutter before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Many of us created our first frontend projects at this hackathon. The final product turned out much nicer than we anticipated and we ended up being more excited and motivated to work on it. In the end, we had something we could actually install on our phones and use. And the art was super cute.
What we learned
We learned how to collaborate on a project as a team and work to each other's strengths. We also learned how to manage our expectations and go in with a strong mindset that kept us having fun. Plus, we learned Flutter.
What's next for Zot Showers
We'll add more accessories for our Peter and are thinking of adding badges for accomplishments and streaks.
