THE RULES
Readers will read 12 books that complete different prompts (listed below) throughout the year. Read at your own pace- there’s no timeline for what needs to be read when! Beginning in February, patrons may claim a themed magnet at the ATS desk for each prompt completed. When you finish all prompts, you’ll be entered to win one of 12 prize baskets, each themed around a different prompt from the year.
Any adult 18 and over is invited to participate- no DGPL card is required! All prizes must be picked up in person.
Prize Pickup: Saturday, February 1, 2026 - Saturday, January 8, 2027
Prompts & Recommendations
Readers may read books in order of the prompts, follow a monthly schedule, or pick and choose whichever prompt fits their mood and timeline. Choose a title on your own, or find recommendations for each prompt by clicking on the title below.
- A Book You've Been Meaning to Read: tackle your TBR pile
- A Book of Essays: short-form nonfictioncollections
- A Book About Myths and Legends: books inspired by mythology, legends, or folklore
- A Memoir: journey through a writer's past
- A Book About Nature: get ready for Summer Reading Club
- A Book with a Color in the Title: read the rainbow
- A Story of America: observe the United States' 250th birthday
- A Graphic Novel: from mysteries to memoirs, you can find anything in a graphic novel
- A Translated Book: discover a work from another language
- A Spooky Read: gothic, creepy, horror, or Halloween themed reads
- A Cozy Read: curl up with a comfort read
- Reread a Childhood Favorite: go back to where your reading journey started
log & Track
Patrons are invited to log your reading via ReadSquared or via a paper form. Download ReadSquared from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Paper forms can be picked up at the Downers Grove Public Library.
When logging in ReadSquared: tap/click the button related to the prompt you’re completing and type in the name of the book you’ve read.
