DIREC secures funding to strengthen Denmark’s quantum computing ecosystem
DIREC has received funding for a new project to strengthen computer scientists working with algorithms for quantum computing.
How do you develop software and algorithms that use the advances in quantum technology? At DIREC quantum is a special interest area, where we explore how digital research can benefit and support the development of quantum technologies.
Alongside cutting-edge quantum devices, there are complex computer science challenges that must be solved to unlock the full potential of quantum technology.
“Denmark is making a bet on quantum computing. The quantum computer offers a unique platform for computing, but we still have too few algorithms that harness it. At DIREC, we want to inspire more computer scientists to explore quantum computing to encourage cross-collaboration at the intersection of quantum computing, physics, math, and computer science.”

EDUCATING THE FUTURE:
DIREC has received funding for a new project to strengthen computer scientists working with algorithms for quantum computing. The project will feature two seasons of recorded lectures by leading experts, covering key topics at the intersection of quantum computing and computer science. Each lecture will be accompanied by curated reading lists and open research challenges, making the content accessible for researchers, educators, and industry professionals alike.

Quantum computers have the potential to solve certain tasks that would take millennia to complete even with the fastest (conventional) supercomputer. However, while impressive accomplishments can be observed in the physical realization of quantum computers, the development of automated methods and software tools that provide assistance in the design and realization of applications for those devices is at risk of not being able to keep up with this development anymore.
