You stand on the precipice.
You can know that you have eternal life.
Steps to receive eternal life
- Confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:9-10, John 14:6)
- Believe that He rose from the dead (Romans 10:9-10)
- By confessing that Jesus is Lord, you place Him as supreme in your life (Luke 6:46).
- By confessing that Jesus is Lord, you turn away from your old ways of sinful living (1 Peter 1:14-16).
- Believing that Jesus rose from the dead goes beyond mere intellectual assent, for even the demons believe (James 2:19). This belief means you place your complete trust and life into this fact. As the saying goes, “You’re all in.”
- By confessing that Jesus is Lord, you are rescued from the kingdom of darkness into the light of the Son, that is Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:13-14).
- Steps 1-6 are often best to express what has already happened in your mind and heart through a prayer that says something like, “Lord Jesus, I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead as payment for my sins. I now turn from my sin, believing and confessing you as Lord. I thank you so much and I now live my life for You unto eternity. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
- Read your Bible every day as this is the equivalent of “spiritual food/nourishment” and will keep you growing in your faith (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Good starting points are the book of John and then the book of Romans.
- Pray daily or even several times a day. This is nothing more than talking to God like you would talk to your parents. God is now your heavenly Father after all (Galatians 4:6). There is a promise of peace if you do so (Philippians 4:6-7).
- Find a church where Jesus is Lord and only preaches the Bible where you can be encouraged by like-minded people, be trained by each other and begin expressing your faith by good works (Proverbs 27:17, Hebrews 10:24-25, Ephesians 2:10).
