Introduction

What is the Boss?

The Boss is a large-scale spatial database service for storing multi-dimensional neuroimaging data and associated voxel annotations that was created for the IARPA MICrONS program. The database is designed to support three dimensional, multi-channel, and time series source data and annotations at various bit depths. The Boss was designed to live in the cloud and has a tiered storage architecture to balance cost and performance, auto-scaling capabilities, and a high-bandwidth ingest process.

Who is this documentation for?

The Boss Developer Hub and API documentation is mainly targeted towards researchers and software developers looking to programmatically interface with the database. Some features, such as the built in data viewer, are more general and will be noted as such.

How do I use this documentation?

The best way to get started is to first read through the Overview and Authentication sections before diving deeper into how the particular services work. Tutorials will become available as the services mature.

If you happen to see a problem or have a suggestion for a particular service, use the "Suggest Edits" button to submit your ideas directly. These suggestions will be aggregated and worked into the development roadmap when applicable. You can also use the Support Forum to suggest features.

Where do I go for help?

The Support Forum section of the developer hub is a great place to get questions answered regarding the Boss system and API. We recommend this as the preferred way to solve problems so others can benefit from the information as well.
