Blow Out and Panning

I created the blow out by making the ISO at 100 and setting the shutter speed to 1/8 so i could allow more light to enter. I think i did a good job on the blow out effect because my partner pops out with the background being bright. For the panning effect you have to have the shutter speed at about half a second so you can follow your object so that the background is blurry but you can see your subject. It was hard to get a good picture of my partner not blurry but i think this is the best one i had.Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the amount of time that is let into the camera. The setting of the room was dark, so we had to make the ISO higher so that you could see my partners and I. I would rather change my shutter speed rather than ISO or aperture because it doesn't make the picture grainy and we don't have to be standing a certain distance from the camera. Aperture

ISO
Flash
50
400
5000ISO refers to film speed and the speed of how much light hits the camera. When i used flash in my first picture i was able to see my partner clearly but you could bearly see the brightness of the lights that were next to her and when i used the ISO 50 you could hardly see my partner because not a lot of light was able to get into the camera because it was a small ISO. When i used ISO 400 you were able to see my partner well along with the lights without them being too bright or dim but when i used the ISO 5000 it made the picture grainy which made the picture look bad. When you have a fast ISO it allows more light which means that the picture will come out grainy because of all the light that is allowed in the camera.

Metering

Light Meter tells your camera what light or tone to look for in the picture. In the first picture i used the light meter to get the computer screens' brightness so when i took a picture of my partner i was able to see her because the light meter made everything bright like the computer screen. In the second picture i used the light meter to get the tone of my partnern so when i took the picture you can see her but because the lights were off you can't see her as clear as the first one. Spot Metering can help you in the future if your in an area where there are lights but it's night time so you can use spot metering on the lights so your able to see your subject in your picture.Friday, April 16, 2010

Surreal Practice Tutorials

In the desert tutorial we worked on how to make the desert look like it is far from the horizon. Then we used a gradient to make the sky and used cloud brushes to make the sky seem realistic. Doing these tutorials will help me with my surreal project because i will know how to make regular objects fit in where you normally don't see them.

Art Show "Extreme Angle"

In this picture that I took, I was trying to get an extreme angle of my partner with the architect of the school in the background. It was difficult to get a shot like how I did because I was trying to get the sun in the picture but I didn’t want to the lighting to be dark because the sun was in it. Taking this picture took a lot of tries to get it how I wanted it to come out.

Graduation
I think a strength of my graduation cover was my background. I would've put a picture of the school to make it look better. At first graphic design was hard for me but after i had an idea of what i wanted to do it got easier for me. I think the most important part of graphic design is being able to get the attention of the people who are going to be looking at it. Graphic design plays a big role in society because it's everywhere from commercials to billboards.Monday, February 8, 2010

Artist Statement
During this semester we have learned a lot of photo tricks and Photoshop tools. There are some photos with many of Photoshop uses and some that aren’t that noticeable. Also some simple tricks for next time you take a picture it can be just that much better.
I have learned a lot Photoshop tools that have helped me with some projects. They have also helped some of my photos look better. I have some pictures that I messed with for a project and I think I did well on it because we got to use what our favorite tools on them. The blur tool and healing process is my favorite tool because it helped my pictures stand out and look different. Using the pen tool was a difficult tool for me because when we made our alien pictures it was hard to get the lines just right. They would come out to small and barely noticeable or too big and look ugly. Next semester I am going to use the pen tool more and practice with other Photoshop tools that I have trouble with.

Personal Words

Life is like a baseball game. When you think a fastball is coming, You gotta be ready to hit the curve. Looking at the ball going over the fence isn't going to help. The clock doesn't matter in baseball. Time stands still or moves backwards. Theoretically, one game could go on forever. Some seem to. Ninety feet between bases is perhaps as close as man ever come to perfection. If God wanted football played in the spring, he would not have invented baseball. Any time you think you have the game conquered the game will turn around and punch you right in the nose. Baseball is the belly of society. Straighten out baseball and you'll straighten out the rest of the world. Baseball is the only thing beside the paper clip that hasn't changed. I think about baseball when I wake up in the morning. I think about it all day and I dream about it at night. The only time I don't think about it
is when I'm playing it. Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer. The other sports are just sports. Baseball is a love. The game's isn't over until it's over. Slump? I ain’t in no slump… I just ain’t hitting. A ball player’s got to be kept hungry to become a big leaguer. That’s why no boy from a rich family ever made it to the big leagues.
I chose these quotes because i think about them all the time when I'm not playing baseball and it makes me appreciate the game even more. Some of the quotes give me encouragement to do well and give it my all when im on the field. These quotes mean a lot to me because there are said by some of the greatest players who played the game.

Scary Effects

The alien picture was my favorite one because we used more tricks and blended the background with ourselves. The dodge tool makes the picture brighter where it looks too dark, and the burn tool makes the picture darker where it is to bright. The tool i had trouble with was the pen tool because it was hard to make the lines perfect because they were either small or big.

Critique: Robert & Shana ParkeHarrison

In the middle of the ocean there is a man building a wooden walkway. The man is about to hammer a nail inside the wood with his hammer. He has wood planks tied to his back with a string. There is a leading line which is the wooden walkway leading up to the man, while he is building it. The picture has different kinds of grey that blends together and the man is wearing all black which makes him stand out.

Photographic Effect

Over the past couple of weeks we've been learning a lot of tricks. The trick that i think is the best is the blur and healing process. These two tricks are my favorite because it makes the pictures look better. I would have liked to work with the levels more so that my pictures could stand out more.

Portraits

I think my most successful was the surprise shot because it was the most creative my partner and i thought of. I tried to capture a serious feeling and i used a tried to use the light to capture that strong serious feeling. I chose for the prop picture to use a baseball hat because normally she doesn't wear a hat of any kind. I like the way that this picture came out because it has a simple background. The surprise picture that i took is different and unique because my partner is making a creative pose that shows feeling and emotion. I struggled with taking the artistic shot because i didn't know what to do to make the photo look artistic.

Contact Sheet
Out of the eight compositional tricks that I have learned i really enjoy the frame picture because it captures the viewer's eye and has them looking at my focus. I will be using extreme angles in my day to day pictures because i like being able to take pictures of things that you don't look at from a different angle. The most difficult picture for me to take was the light picture because i didn't understand it that much and didn't know how to get the shadow effect. Macro was my favorite picture to take because i was able to get up close to objects that you normally look at from a distance.
