Character Canon: Persona 3 [Mayfield AU]
Character Age/Gender: 18/Male
Canon Point: After Mayfield’s end.
Character Canon History: Persona 3 history. Mayfield history
Character Personality:
Being a silent protagonist, much of Minato's personality is left blank, leaving it up to the player to interpret him themselves. Nonetheless, canon does provide him a couple of traits. But none is more prominent than his quiet, non-chalant attitude. Indeed, this is the boy who walked through a dark city of coffins and blood to get to his assigned dormitory, barely batting an eyelash. More emotional characters like Junpei and Yukari comment on how nothing seems to phase him. (There's a humorous short story in one of the character materials where his passive attitude gets him into trouble.)
Despite this, his stoic demeanor has positive effects: it allows him to successfully lead in battle because he can think under pressure, and he's a good listener when his friends need one because he's not the type of person who makes hasty judgmental reactions. Because of this, despite his quiet demeanor (or because of it?), he manages to befriend many ladies people. This list includes his teammates, classmates, club members, and a few miscellaneous (including a corrupt businessman).
That's not to say he's a perfect being. For example, while Minato manages his daily routine pretty well, sometimes he'll make dumb mistakes like make Sunday plans with a friend, forgetting that he already made plans with another one and hurting their feelings. Or sometimes he'll enter a battle with the wrong Persona equipped, be knocked off his ass, and only survive because of a combo of luck and quick thinking by his teammates. Talented he may be, Minato is neither invulnerable nor immortal.
Another prominent trait is his sleepiness, as evidenced by the game giving you the option to sleep in class. At one point, he manages to sleep throughout a freaking typhoon (though granted he was also sick). The manga takes this trait and runs with it, making him a complete sleepyhead withmoe humorous results. All that said, he somehow manages to get good grades (through studying late at night, not helping his sleep habits).
He's also a fairly big eater. The majority of Social Links take place in a restaurant or cafe. During one of their dates, when Yukari makes a remark to herself about eating more than a regular girl, Minato has the option to tell her, "It's a healthy appetite." Even the Gourmet King remarks how well Minato can keep up with his pace. Elizabeth, the only one who beats him in this aspect, remarks how he stopped eating after their 7th meal. Seven meals is still quite a fairly high number for a male teenager, especially one who still maintains a rail-thin appearance.
He isn't all jokes and derpiness though, and this is where my interpretation comes in. This is a kid who lost his parents at too early an age, and at the same time had Death sealed inside him. This traumatic encounter has affected him subconsciously, causing him to become more aware of how "all things come to the same end." To be frank, he's all-too aware of death, and up 'til now he was very much afraid of it. And without a strong family support unit to fall back on, no one to talk to about this, he quietly bared this burden alone. Even today, while he listens to others describe their problems to him and he gives some gentle (though sometimes blunt) advice, no one has done the same for him. Maybe he figures, it's better to take on the world's burdens than to burden the world. It could be he doesn't think of his own issues as burdensome. If anyone asked about his parent situation for example, he'd try to be optimistic about it.
His fear of death is arguably the main focus of the game, referenced excruciatingly everywhere from the opening song to the ending. Much of the game is about him finally accepting that death happens, but it's not always the end, and overcoming it. Even though he's dead now, his actions had a tremendous impact on his friends and the world. And because of that, he still continues to live on in their hearts. He isn't carrying the burden alone anymore. Now his friends are helping him as well.
Overall, he's generally an intelligent, charming, if quiet guy. He's not a chatty person in general, and is expressionless, so it's hard for others to read him. Most assume he doesn't have any emotions, although that's far from the truth. He makes jokes sometimes (though only his close friends notice it), and he appreciates a good meal. And while mostly he's even-tempered, threaten his friends and he'll be ready to kick your ass. And while he's often confronted with death, there's not much else that scares him (besides Fuuka's cooking).
AU Information:
In spite of being a silent protagonist, Minato Arisato is described as a quiet boy, with a kind heart. Years of loneliness had left him a bit stoic, as he suppressed the memories of his past to try to move on from it. But with the help of his friends, and a couple of weirdos living inside a blue elevator, he overcame his own shadow and even defeated the undefeatable being known as Nyx...at the cost of his own life. But his will was strong, and he lived for over a month so he could keep his promise to meet up with his friends on the roof during Graduation Day. After its fulfillment, he passed on with no regrets, and to this day continues to watch over the world and protect it from its own self-destruction.
This is not that Minato Arisato. Our Minato here was "born" in a town named Mayfield, with all the memories of the Minato described above. Thus, he inherited the same personality as well. This Minato also struggled with loneliness, as when he first arrived in Mayfield no one from SEES was with him. And when they did, soon they would become droned and he felt powerless to help anyone. In addition, having learned prematurely about his eventual fate outside of Mayfield, the boy also had to struggle with his own mortality. At least in Mayfield, if he died he could be revived. But wouldn't remaining here be running away from his responsibilities? He struggled with such thoughts, but kept it hidden, whether by a stony mask or a sad smile. All the time he was unaware of the real truth.
If one thing is certain, it's that Minato doesn't like to burden others with his own problems. He'll listen to others' chat, but he isn't a very chatty person in return. (Again, this is something he's inherited from the real Minato Arisato.) The only person he talked to freely was Minako Arisato, his other self from another alternate universe (but female). Their lives parallel from one another, Minato saw no need from hiding secrets from one another. Because she had already gone through her eventual fate back home, they felt a strong kinship. So when she was eventually droned for good, Minato again felt emptiness within him, having lost his other half.
In addition, one definite difference our Minato from Mayfield can boast of is this: he had to kill. Having remembered losing his parents at a young age, Minato abhorrently hated the thought of killing, because everyone deserves a chance at living. Yet Mayfield being the horrible helltown it pretends it isn't, there were times Minato had to break this rule of conduct. During Spring Cleaning, Minato refused to kill the target on his hit list, and for his trouble he was almost mind-raped into doing it. (Thankfully, someone else killed him first.) When the first zombie outbreak occurred, he had no choice but to kill zombies, ones that had been drones before. He did it because he needed to survive, and to protect his friends, which made it all the worse when he had to kill Shana. When he succeeded, that was the first time he ever cried. So while he may kill if needed, he doesn't like to at all.
While Minato has the same leadership abilities, he's become a lot less confident about them. In addition to the issue with Shana, time after time he's failed to save his friends from either being droned permanently, or being killed during events. Even when he managed to save Rin Tohsaka from the sniper, overcoming his fear of death, she was all-too-happy to inform him that she died anyway from radiation poisoning. Still, it just shows how important his friends and family are to him. When he saw all the dead bodies of his loved ones during Bombfield, that moment he snapped and ran straight to the Mayor's office to interrogate him.
After his canon update, he did regain back a lot of his self-confidence. Having saved the world and protected his allies (or so he thought), he felt he had been called back to Mayfield to help everyone escape. It would be his final task before he returned to the Seal. While sad he wouldn't see his friends again, he felt grateful for the opportunity to spend some extra time with them. After all, death alone didn't define life. The bonds you make do.
Then came the final events in Mayfield, as he entered the body dump below the Mayor's Office. Confronted with the fact that he was a simulation too, suddenly none of what he had learned mattered. The bonds he remembered "back home" weren't his, nor did he actually save anyone. He was just a mere copy of the boy who did save everyone. He nearly lost it, almost giving in to despair, but he wasn't allowed to. The Milkman came and revived the dead bodies as zombies, and he had no choice but to escape with everyone else and deal with the outbreak.
After the chaos settled, and escaping with the other residents, he finally had more time to think it over. Being Minato, he tried to focus on the positives. If he's a copy, then that meant the Seal still exists and wasn't taken away. (That would have been really bad.) In addition, if they couldn’t go home, he wouldn't have to say good-bye to his friends after all. Once they arrived at the new abandoned town, they didn't have any home to return to, but together they could build one themselves.
No longer shackled by his choice...Minato made a different decision: to build his own future, to take the lessons learned by the original Minato and apply them in his own way. And with the clone replication machine bringing back his old friends, he felt confident he could do it. Copy or not, he still treasures his bonds, and continues to hope for the future.
Character Abilities: Can summon beings called Persona, which are essentially mythology Pokemon as they cast RPG-esque spells and skills. He also apparently inherits whatever innant strengths/weaknesses they have, for example a Persona weak against lightening will give him that weakness and knock him flat when he's struck. He can keep up to 12 of them inside his head. A list of his current Persona, along with their list of skills, are here. He uses a gun-shaped device called an Evoker to do this. He points it at his head and "fires" it to summon his Persona. Technically, it isn’t needed. With enough practice he could be able to summon his Personas outside the Dark Hour too. Still, he isn’t aware of this. Depending on the Personas he has, he can summon two at once to do a Fusion skill. His most powerful one is Armageddon, summoning both Helel and Satan, which inflicts 9999 damage. It costs his entire SP to cast though. Finally he has the arcana known as the Universe, which is simply the most powerful arcana. With it, he created a miracle and set up a barrier between Nyx and Erebus, preventing them from coming into contact. Due to its vague definition, it will be sealed away in this game.
For non-magic abilities, he's surprisingly athletic, both in battle and in sports. He also can sew and has knowledge in photography thanks to memories of Fashion club and Photography club respectively. If you picked Music Club instead of Photography, he can play violin too. (Alas, his Art skills are lacking.) He's also incredibly intelligent and can ace exam scores even if he sleeps through class.
Character Inventory: His clothes (Gekkoukan high school uniform), Evoker (a gun-shaped tool that aids in summoning his Persona), headphones and MP3 player, cell phone (with a screenshot of a beach), his laptop, and a beat-up looking handmade sword made by Hiccup.
He also has the following Persona: Messiah, Mara, Helel, Susano-o, Satan, Kohryu, Norn, Thanatos, Scathach, Odin, Arahabaki, Surt. He will start off with just Thanatos and Mara, as they were the Persona he carried when leaving Mayfield. Overtime, as he gets better settled into the game, he’ll gradually regain the others.

Jul. 13th, 2013 02:17 am Of all the things that bothered him in Mayfield, it was the treatment of drones that got to him. Yes, they were creepy. Yes, they could become dangerous in certain situations. That didn't alleviate the fact that they used to be people. Real people who laughed, got angry, cried, and had their own voice which wasn't scripted.
He'd gotten used to the fact that some people, even Elizabeth, kept them in the basement whenever they had company over, or all the time. Some were worse, either killing them for practice or using them as their own guinea pigs. But in his house, he treated them like they were human. Drones or not, the people they used to be were like family to him. It's why even when Minako served him that horrible mushroom dish, he ate it anyway. It wasn't their fault they were like this. The town made them this way. The town's whole purpose was to drag other people here and enslave them, for the purpose of creating their twisted idea of a utopia.
If they couldn't find an exit, he at least wanted to know if they could manage to reverse the droning process, because keeping them like this was too cruel.

History: Persona 3 history. (note: Mayfield!Minato is actually a copy of the main character, but he spent most of Mayfield believing he was the real one, and it formed the basis for his personality in the game, so it's still relevant)
Minato first wakes up in bed in Mayfield to his phone ringing. Against his better judgement, he answers, only to be met with a million hecklers. Through it he learns about Mayfield, how people are taken from different worlds, and forced to live in family units in an idyllic 1950s America setting. Powers are taken, along with any possessions, though they're given back in time. But eventually, people lose their self-awareness and become a drone. Drones are brainwashed NPCs of Mayfield, believing Mayfield to be the greatest place in the world and lacking any awareness of multiple worlds. Sometimes it's temporary, as punishment for breaking the rules of the town, but most times it's permanent, and the person is lost forever.
Minato took this rather well, except for the fact that none of his friends were around. He had come at a time when all the Persona cast had dropped. But undeterred, he made a post asking if anyone was familiar with "Persona". Only one of the repliers recognized it beyond a psychological term. Charles Fei-Ong (from the Blood+ manga) knew Minato from a previous player, but Minato didn't recognize the boy at all. Even as he would later try to befriend Charles "again", Minato didn't get how he could have come here before. He also mistook Ruri Hoshino (from Martian Successor Nadesico) for a Persona user, but it was a misunderstanding.
He didn't have time to worry though. Not long after his birthday, the Angel Statues from Doctor Who showed up and he made the mistake of looking one in the eyes. Vulnerable without his Personas, he got away and spent the rest of the event fighting off the urge to open his eyes. During it, he hears witness of one of his friends, Taiwan (from Hetalia), dying and subsequently taken over by an angel statue. This marks the first time in Mayfield that someone died and he couldn't do anything.
After the event, Mitsuru and Elizabeth arrive in Mayfield. This brings both relief and worry to Minato, glad to have them around but also concerned. For good reason, as shortly after that the Dairy started making strange noises. He and Mitsuru try to investigate, but don't have much luck, as the Dairy is shut up, and they're not armed with weapons. The next day proves weirder, as a new highway opened up with a diner. He and Taiwan (brought back to life because nobody dies forever in Mayfield) investigate the diner for a while, discovering that people may be trapped somewhere. They don't learn much before Grady orders them out. He also goes for a crazy drive with Elizabeth, and meets Garviel from the Warhammer 40K universe.
Then he hears word that crazy stuff happened at the Post Office. (The Post Office is another alternative to regains; trade in one regain for another that you want. If you have no regain to trade, then an arm or limb or certain memories will do.) Basically the Mayor hired people out to assassinate others in exchange for all their regains back, battle clusterfuck ensued, but suddenly everyone turned into milk. The Milkman and Postman battled each other, with the Milkman winning but not before the Postman opened his Post Office to everyone. Minato didn't waste a second and went to get all his stuff back. Together, he and Mitsuru opted to explore the Dairy again, with Elizabeth joining them midway. They get further in, but it's not long before the Dairy shakes and starts to give in, and they're forced to escape, unintentionally separating during the chaos. Then from the Dairy emerges...a Milkman robot! The Milkmech rampages through town, destroying homes and innocents (and not-so-innocents). Minato wasted no time getting his shit together and joined the epic battle against it. Together with Red and Blue from Pokemon, Himano from Pretear, and Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon, they battled bravely against the largeass colossus, dealing out large-ass hit points.
Following the Milk Mech's defeat, Lucy (the "little girl" behind the town's existence) huffs for a while before disappearing. With her gone, Mayfield has come to an end. Everyone is now able to go home....
PSYCHE! It was all an April Fool's Joke by Lucy. All the buildings are restored, dead people come back to life, and everyone's regains are back to what they were before the event. But as per post-event rule, the Postman delivers a regain to each person. Minato gets back his Evoker, though without his Persona it's a bit useless. With that, cue awkward time as he attempts to explain Elizabeth to Mitsuru. Before that he makes a quick stop by her place where he helps her cook, and he learns more about her siblings (the other attendants). He also learns she was leaving the Velvet Room because of him, although she doesn't tell him why. Never the less, this starts a serious romantic interest in Liz.
Shortly after that starts a rise in Persona users coming in, including ones that come from the not-too-distant future. Souji, Minako, Aigis, Chie, Yosuke, Kanji, Naoto, even Adachi. Minato gets a part-time job at the custom cosplay cafe run by Taiwan, and he and Elizabeth even get together officially during the Spring Dance. Unfortunately, disaster strikes as Minato discovers Mitsuru has been droned. With the founder of SEES "gone", Minato arranges a Persona-user meeting together with Souji...who arranges it at Adachi's place. Anyone who has played Persona 4 will understand why this was a dumb idea. For those who don't [spoiler]Adachi is the killer[/spoiler], though in Mayfield he's been trying to clean up his act. So Yosuke, Chie, and Naoto don't attend. But Shana (yes that Shana) crashes the party in her tsundere fashion. So everyone there talks, Shana explains why she's there, Adachi reveals his less-than-savory past to everyone there, Elizabeth talks about the Velvet Room, Minato and Minako try to explain how they exist, and Aigis reveals to have inherited the Wild Card ability. She also accidentally lies about which Persona she initially summoned when she awakened. This will serve an important plot development later. All-in-all the meeting didn't serve anything other than to introduce one another, and set up character development.
Then things get worse. ...No, really. They get much worse. See, every year Mayfield holds an event called Spring Cleaning AKA Population Control. Everyone receives a census survey, which everyone is forced to fill out. Then another letter comes out giving you a hit list of people not being patriotic citizens of Mayfield, America. So Minato receives his list and decides not to kill, because he's Neutral Good and that's how he rolls. But that doesn't do you any good because even if you don't go after your targets, you could still get yourself killed, because *you* are someone else's target. Plus, they force a fear spell on you, and it won't stop until you obey.
Chie and Yosuke are the first to die, and Kanji follows. Minako goes MIA, but is found dead later. Seeing as her corpse is in a car sets off a trigger in Minato, as his parents died in a car accident. Already affected by the paranoia going around, Minato is killed later that night, marking his first death.
A few days later, the event ends and he wakes up in his house. He tries going about his day, until he meets up with Minako and the two of them have a much-needed heart-to-heart. They grow closer as a result. Souji and Minato also go fishing, and Souji teaches Minato how to make an omelet, so he can social link with Shana. He even adopts a stray kitty and he and Minako name it Coco.
Things are awesome for a while. Minato gets back Orpheus, but seeing how it's a crap Persona he trades it in for Scatach instead. Which turns out to be a wise choice, at it helps him initiate a bond with the Fate cast. All is not well though, as Elizabeth accidentally drops cryptic hints about the future. Aigis doesn't say anything, but her crying face tells it all. On top of that, he goes to Souji's pool party and after some stupid antics with Minako gets himself drunk. And proceeds to do more stupid things, like hit on all the ladies. Come morning he makes a public apology, while also privately inviting Elizabeth to his home. When she arrives, they talk and Elizabeth finally confirms that Minato will become all- powerful and die. He finally asks Minako and with her own confirmation of what happened, they sit together as they try to comfort each other.
Cue the next event. For July 4th, everyone is droned and lead to believe they live imaginary lives as they celebrate with fireworks. This takes a tragic turn when, once the droning dies down, a major NPC drone Mrs. Jane Smith starts behaving erratically, seeming to reverting to her past self Samantha Achewood. Try as they can, no one can help her. She's in so much pain that she begs Grady to kill her for good, even though it's in defiance against Lucy (who is actually a man named Zemekis). After hesitating, he finally does so.
Her corpse is found the next morning, with a peaceful smile on her face.
Minato is among the ones who find her. Already troubled by the lingering memories of his drone life, he assumes that she'll come back later...but she doesn't. Instead, her corpse is used by the town to create another Red Scare. Everyone was forced to confess either their deepest secrets, or that they were a Communist. Which is how Minato learns the final secret of the future: he and Minako had Death sealed inside them by Aigis the night of their parent's accident.
Meanwhile, Grady (actually Evan Olney) is found and killed. Compared to Samantha, almost no one mourns his death. Then Lucy/Zemekis finds a replacement drone for her mother. To kick back the drama, Minato and Minako have a hot-dog eating contest, loser having to pay and wear a maid dress. Because of his luck (and sympathy), he loses and pays for it. But next day both Minako and Souji are droned. So being the responsible leader he is, he arranges another Persona meeting. Because it's not at Adachi's place, everyone arrives, but nothing much is done. And it didn't need to happen anyway, as Souji comes back soon enough.
Just in time for another event. This time a new officer is elected to replace Grady, the Milkman. And he issues every family to drink one bottle of milk per day. And they rotate different kinds per day. Some days it's full of spiders, others it's poison, and for some it's just regular milk. For Minato's family, Cuba handles most of the drinking. But out of frustration of not being able to help anyone, one day Minato chugged the milk instead. Only he gets Hormone-Free milk, which causes intense mood-swings. So happy and high, he came across Souji's house, which had a big hole in it. Inside is an unstable Souji, who received Hormone-Free milk too. After some bitching at each other, they go into an all-right brawl, which stops when Minato realizes what he's doing, breaks down, and runs away.
Soon after that's over, the Milkman is demoted and Jack Smith takes over as the chief officer instead. So now no one has to drink the milk. Minato and Souji avoid each other. Then Minako comes back, but there's little time for celebration as Mayfield tosses the teens into the Bowling Alley for make-outs. Minato gets stuck with Tohsaka Rin, which any ordinary student back in her world would envy, but they decide to bowl instead.
After that, Minato then dresses up as a maid, as per the bet, and waits on people at the cosplay cafe. He and Souji make up too. All in all, things are awkward and weird. He catches wind of a new resistance group forming, and asks the Persona-users if they want to join. Reactions are mixed, as Yosuke is already part of one.
Things are normal until the zombies attack. One of the characters received back a regain that spreads a zombie virus around, and everything goes to hell as a zombie outbreak happens. Minato does okay, avoiding being killed...but has trouble because the zombies look human. And then the worst case scenario happens. He finds Shana, a comrade and loyal friend, turned undead. After a fight, Minato finds himself with no choice but to kill her.
Even after the zombie outbreak ends, there's no break for him as he comes home to find Minako droned. Permanently. As is Souji. In fact, many of the Persona characters are droned by now. Minato is just "nope can't deal" and spends time with Elizabeth instead. Yet life must go one. He returns home and to school, and makes up with Shana.
Things finally a quiet a while. Halloween comes and goes as Mayfield goes through several nights of bad horror cliches. Pod people, vampires, aliens, monsters. The works. Minato did get abducted by aliens for a day, but he didn't remember. In other words nothing major.
Come mid-November and one character named Lucas (from Mother 3) gains back some exotic mushrooms. They spread through the town via the drones and any characters who eat it experiences horrible hallucinations. Minato can't bring himself to not eat drone!Minako's cooking, so through the day he hallucinates horrible things, like his parents begging him to come with them. Fun stuff.
Then on Thanksgiving, Jack Smith announces that Thanksgiving will be normal, and nothing bad will happen if you eat the turkey and send your gratitude to Mayfield for this wonderful opportunity. Surprisingly, very few are thankful at all. Surely it had nothing to do with being kidnapped to Mayfield and all the torturous events going on. Zemekis, being the insane homocidal maniac s/he is, decides the best way to teach the townspeople to have gracefulness for Mayfield is to take it away. So, Mayfield is bombed. Everyone not droned survives, but the drones are killed, and the buildings are destroyed. No matter where he goes, Minato sees corpses of people who were once his comrades.
With that, Minato finally snaps and runs to the City Hall, to where the City Hall office is. He had more than a few things to do with the people in charge. Only when he reaches the bombed office, the Mayor has already killed himself, and all the important documents had been destroyed. Frustrated, Minato tries to look through all the pieces of the documents, but finds nothing. Meanwhile, Bazett Fraga McRemitz (another Typemoon character) enters the office and doesn't make a very good impression on him, first speaking to him like he's a kid, then trying to destroy the invisible barrier restricting entry to the rest of the building with the Mayor's own dead body.
Next day, trucks arrive with soldiers and war survivors in tow, and they're eager for food. They don't care if it's human either. Minato takes shelter at one of the safe zones set up by Garviel and friends. He chills with Tohsaka, Lancer, and Garviel for a while. He tries to remain optimistic, but being unable to locate Elizabeth, his anxiety is growing subltly. Then at night a wave of soldiers attack and they must hold them off. Tohsaka makes the mistake of trying to engage a sniper in melee. Seeing her about to be killed, Minato loses reasoning and pushes her aside, taking the bullet. This earns him his second death in Mayfield.
Three days later, he wakes up and finds that everything has returned to normal, almost as if it had all been a dream. Of course, being Mayfield, he knew it wasn't. He goes about his day like normal: school, part-time, receiving his new regain. Then he gets on the phone to contact his friends...but mostly to contact Tohsaka Rin. The two argue for a while, but end up becoming friends. Somehow.
December arrives. And with it snow and holiday cheer. And by that, we meet freezing temperatures at night, and the power flickering in everyone's homes. Even the drones act oddly, sometimes walking in circles or just stopping altogether, almost as if they were run on low batteries. Regains vanish sometimes, and reappear. But hell if Minato's not going to let anything ruin his Christmas date with Elizabeth, so they have it early.
Next night, Minato has a dream. A boy in prison pajamas appears before him, and offers a choice. Choose to never be born, and Mayfield will be saved from the Dark Hour. Given recent events, Minato decides yes. Next day, he wakes up and finds he's not been destroyed. But no one remembers him. In fact, a lot of people seem to have been forgotten. Coincidentally, everyone seems to have had the same dream.
In the midst of this "It's A Wonderful Life!" BS, Rin Kagamine tries to storm the dairy. Minato is very unsure of this plan of hers, but does nothing to stop her, because she doesn't even remember him. It fails, and as punishment, Minato and everyone is "droned" to sing Christmas carols door-to-door for a day. Thankfully, the event ends on Christmas and everyone's memories are restored. Minato receives his regains/presents.
New Years passes, and other than a strange radio broadcast nothing major happens. Rin Kagamine does throw a concert though, with Minato joining her in a duet together (Mass Destruction).
Then January 13th Mayfield does something odd and apparently switches servers (
Not much else happens. Minato skips school for the first time without an excuse, just because. (His sempai Akihiko had been droned that day.) All his CR are worried, but he doesn't explain why.
Then there's weird noises in the Dairy again, people go down to explore, and Minato sees the machine everyone freaked out about for the first time, the one that supposedly powers Mayfield with the souls of droned people. One of his friends, Garviel, destroys it. Which turns out to be a bad, BAD idea, because the machine is actually responsible for ressurrection. So with it gone anyone who dies stays dead, whoops. Mayor Doe calls them out for this. Unfortunately, Zemekis gets impatient with him and Jack, so he lets Ms. Johnson take over handling the mess. Her methods? Fixing people while putting them through horrible torture.
Meanwhile Minato volunteers himself to be a healer, but in the middle of it he comes across Shadow!Minato, courtesy of Nyarlathotep. (Nyarlathotep just happens to be the Big Bad of Persona 2.) The Shadow says some things that strike a nerve in the boy, eventually escalating in a battle, during which he ruins Minato's headphones. Or rather, the headphones given to him by Fuuka, and allowed him to summon Scathach. The result is Minato suffering another brief BSOD, and though he tries to fight back with Thanatos the Shadow still has the upper hand. In the end, Yosuke has to rescue the poor protagonist. It's all too much for him though, as eventually when goes out again, Minato re-experiences his previous deaths, collapses from the reopened wounds, and dies.
A few days later, Minato comes back but his memory is fuzzy. He doesn't remember anyone in Mayfield, even Tohsaka who helped him up out of the snow. His ability to feel emotions is numb too. Thankfully things return to normal after the event, but he finds that the wounds haven't healed completely, and have left scars.
In April, the mun dropped Mayfield for a few months so Minato ended up droned. When he came back 3 months later, he found a lot had changed. He lived in a new address, and was now officially an adult, so he became a husband and father, with two drone children and a wife (though because of IC circumstances, he rarely saw her). During a party reunion with all the new arrivals, Minato ran into Tohsaka, who found out through Elizabeth his fate back home. To calm her down (and attempt to keep her from pulling any needless "rescue attempts"), he tells her his whole story.
In August/September, glitch holes start appearing in Mayfield. One opens each day, and a voice tells them to gather fragments of "mementos" in each hole. Minato enters one on the 4th day and appears on a mountain. There he meets with Tohsaka Rin's uncle Kariya Matou. Once the item is gained, the mountain starts to erupt and everyone has to go back to the town. Those who entered the final hole are responsible for giving the ultimate item to the Librarian, to save her.
The following days are unsettingly quiet, with signs of Mayfield's deterioration becoming more obvious. It's becoming more clear that everyone will be obliterated along with the town, unless they find an escape. Yet life still goes on. Minato gets his newest and final regain, Mara, (Yes *that* Mara) with natural results. (He trades it in for Helel.)
The final days of Mayfield, start with Zemekis' final droning. Just as with last year's July 4th, everyone believes they've always lived their whole lives in Mayfield. Only a few manage to resist, Minato being one of them, because of their strong willpower. But anyone who speaks out publicly suddenly disappears, with no clue where they had gone.
It's only when the librarian (Annie) interferes that progress is made. A select few go with her to the Post Office to convince the Postman to join their cause in revealing the truth about Mayfield, and to free themselves. Minato isn't one of them, but he is all to glad to go exploring once the Postman breaks past the barrier in the Mayor's Office. Down the hallways, down below the building, he enters what will only be called the Body Vault. Dozens of dead mutilated corpses litter the floor, many of them belonging to friends both in Mayfield and long ago. And also, a few corpses of his own body.
The ultimate truth of Mayfield finally sinks in: Mayfield is a simulation and so are its residents. Having lost his own sense of self, and questioning his life, Minato would have lost it. Except he wasn't allowed, as a mutilated Milkman entered the Vault and exploded in a slurry of milk. The milk covers the corpses, bringing them to life as zombie-like creatures, ready to kill. Outnumbered, Minato and everyone in the room runs to escape the horde, but even as they make it out the monsters break down the doors and invade Mayfield.
And that's when it turns truly insane, as a storm breaks out and hazmats arrive. Minato meets up with Rin Kagamine as she's just finished singing to a Len drone. He gathers up what he can and escapes using the family car, following Rin who is also using her car. They arrive at the church, which soon opens to reveal Zemekis. Not as the little girl Lucy Smith, nor as a demonic being, but as a near-dead man. They have a final chat with him, as he confirms that everyone in Mayfield is indeed a simulation made by him. He couldn't drag people directly from other worlds, but he was able to copy and paste. After talking to the other characters, Garviel decided to grant the man a wish of his own: a quick death. Once again, the space marine is criticized, but Zemekis was at death's door anyway so it didn't matter.
All is well after that, right? Nope. The Postman is killed and Annie is knocked out of the picture by Ms. Johnson. She takes over the town, and everyone is rightfully afraid. Not only that, but all the drones are gone, so the town is eerily empty. Then out of...boredom? Insanity? Sadism? Johnson then starts controling the characters into killing one another. The only bright side is that respawning comes back, though it's hardly bright as the killing continues. This goes on for a week, until Annie suddenly hacks Ms. Johnson and makes a quick glitch hole at the highway. She can only keep it up for a few hours, so everyone is strongly urged to leave. Doesn't help that hazmats and a strange smog arrive to fuck everything up further.
With the family car still wrecked, Minato at first decides to escape using Helel to carry him. But it's a major MP drain. Luckily, Lucas spots him in his Mr. Saturn space bus thing, and he flies down to catch a rather turbulent ride out of Mayfield. Once the few hours had passed, and almost everyone had escaped, Annie and Johnson make one final announement. Turns out, Annie knew about the fact that they were clones all along, but encouraged them saying that she always thought of them as real, having watched them always from her corner. Also, she had prepared a simulation for them of their own, run on a low-power setting. After that, Mayfield is shut away forever.
But everyone continues down the highway, eventually running into what looks like a run-down version of Mayfield, completely empty. They all take the time to explore the place, including one peculiar building that looks too out of place. Too modern to be from Mayfield. They find a large computer with a control panal, all settings locked except for one: Initializing Reset.
After much confusion and hesitation on Minato and everyone's part, Netherlands decides to go against everyone and pushes the button. A few strange noises and an hour later, extra clones began pouring out...clones that had been in Mayfield before. Including Yosuke, Minako, and several others.
It's not the home he remembers, but it's his and everyone's to make. But not long after he's settled in his new home, does Minato mysteriously disappear from the place.
Personality: Being a silent protagonist, much of Minato's personality is left blank, leaving it up to the player to interpret him themselves. Nonetheless, canon does provide him a couple of traits. Minato Arisato is described as a quiet boy, with a kind heart. After its fulfillment, he passed on with no regrets, and to this day continues to watch over the world and protect it from its own self- destruction.
He struggled with such thoughts, but kept it hidden, whether it be by a stony mask or a sad smile. All the while unaware of the real truth.
That she had already gone through her eventual fate back home, they felt a strong kinship. So when she was eventually droned for good, Minato again felt an emptiness within him, having lost who was essentially his other half.
During Spring Cleaning, Minato refused to kill the target on his hitlist, and for his trouble he was almost mind- raped into doing it. (Thankfully, someone else killed him first.) When the first zombie outbreak occurred, he had no choice but to kill zombies, ones that had been drones before. He did it because he needed to survive, and to protect his friends. Which made it all the worse when he had to kill Shana. When he succeeded, that was the first time he ever cried. So while he may kill if needed, he doesn't like to at all.
While Minato has the same leadership abilities, he's become a lot less confident about it. Still, that just shows how important his friends and family are to him. When he saw all the dead bodies of his loved ones during Bombfield, that was the moment he snapped and he ran straight to the Mayor's office to interrogate them.
After his canon update, he did regain back his self- confidence. Having saved the world and protected his allies (or so he thought), he felt he had been called back to Mayfield to help everyone escape. It would be his final task before he returned to the Seal. While it was sad he wouldn't see his friends again, he felt grateful for the opportunity to spend some extra time with them.
After the chaos settled, he had more time to think it over. Being Minato, he tried thinking of the positives. If he's a copy, then that meant the Seal still exists and wasn't taken away. (That would have been really bad.) In addition, he wouldn't have to say good-bye to his friends after all. Once they did escape, they didn't have any home to return to, but they could build one themselves. Minato wasn't shackled by future...he could build his own. He could take the lessons learned by the Minato back home and apply it in his own way.
That said, he's still haunted by an uncertainty around his true nature, and it will continue in this new game he's playing. Also, how could he face the friends Minato made in Iwatodai? But for now he'd rather focus on the positives, and get his life in order. Copy or not, he's still full of hope for the future.
Abilities: Can summon beings called Persona, which are essentially mythology Pokemon as they cast RPG-esque spells and skills. He also apparently inherits whatever innant strengths/weaknesses they have, for example a Persona weak against lightening will give him that weakness and knock him flat when he's struck.
Being a Wild Card, he can store more than multiple Personas. Right now, he can keep up to 12 of them inside his head. A list of his current Persona, along with their list of skills, are here. He needs a gun-shaped device called an Evoker to do this. He points it at his head and "fires" it to summon his Persona.
Depending on the Personas he has, he can summon two at once to do a Fusion skill. His most powerful one is Armageddon, which inflicts 9999 damage. It requires both Helel and Satan to be in his head, and costs all of his SP to cast though.
Entry Fee: His Personas and social link items. They're the only links he has to his "life" outside of Mayfield, things he's unconsciously clinging to in order to have any sense of himself.

21st Persona
Nov. 29th, 2011 08:20 pm[Home action (1764 Beaver Street)]
[It was all a split-second difference.
One moment he remembers shoving Tohsaka aside, away from the sniper. Then next he awakens in his familiar bed, like nothing had happened.
A dream? The words formed in his mind but didn't pass through his lips. Of course it wasn't; that was another one of Mayfield's events. Possibly their worst so far. (And given what he's endured in the past, that's saying a lot.) The last memory still lay fresh in his mind. Following Tohsaka, pushing her, and then...a gunshot, a split-second of loss of feeling, before he collapsed and woke up.
So he died again. This made it the second time.
But he didn't think too much about it. Soon, drone!Minako knocked on his door, to wake him for school. He complied, giving her a hug for good measure. He had to hand it to Mayfield; for all the messes it caused, it at least cleaned up them up afterwords.
Now he's at the table, taking the time to eat breakfast. His schedule is going to be tight today, but for now he can relax knowing peace has returned again.]
[School: lunchtime]
[His lunch...is just a regular paper-bag lunch. Minato hadn't had time to prepare his own today, so there's no special treats inside. He didn't mind it, but if your character wants to trade him something go ahead.
He may also seem to be looking for someone.]
He may also seem to be looking for someone.]
[Cosplay cafe: after school]
[Horrible bomb disaster or not, he's still got work to do. These costumes won't sew themselves, after all.]
[Beaver Street: near-evening]
[Another event, another package. And lo, it's another Persona. This time instead of a monster-like shinigami, it's a fierce-looking, sword-wielding angel with pink and white feathers, and punk hair. Don't ask if that's any better.]
[Phone: evening]
So, what's up?
19th Persona
Nov. 17th, 2011 08:56 pm[Action: Morning, all around Mayfield]
[Today starts off normal for our plucky protagonist. Waking up, getting dressed, eat breakfast - today's menu is a mushroom omelet, which for some reason looks purple. But, out of love for his mother (Minako), Minato decides to take a few bites (and secretly dispose the rest). A little strange, but so far relatively normal (for Mayfield).
On the surface, Minato looks to be normal. His spaced-out expression is nothing new for his friends and associates. But it's obvious from his behavior that he's not in his right mind. Whether it be him entering the wrong street (the normal way to the monorail), hitching a ride in a stranger's car (getting on the monorail for school), entering the park (this is school, right?), entering the lake (he's always been curious about the swim team, why not take a quick dive), or following random butterflies (were they always this blue?).]
[ooc: for clarification, anything in italics is what Minato is hearing. Don't be shocked if it's different from what your character's saying.]

[Feeling rested enough after that last event, Minato is outside next to the mailbox, opening another package. Inside, he finds a card with a familiar image on it. The card disappears instantly, surrounding Minato in a blue light. And floating above him is what could only be described as a fierce shinigami.
It disappears after a couple of seconds.]
[phone]
I'm heading to the highway this afternoon. If you can fight, feel free to join in.
[action: highway]
[Well, no use regaining a Persona if you're not going to test it out. Thankfully, the bears are convenient targets for Thanatos. Any onlookers care to join? Maybe engage in a practice battle with Minato himself?]
[Laptop: Ruri's network]
It's been a while. Want to play a game?

16th Persona
Oct. 5th, 2011 10:02 pm[action; Beaver street; morning]
Okay, I'm off then.
[At house 1776, Minato can be seen leaving for school, with his backpack in tow.]
Wait a minute, Minato!
Eh? [He stops to turn around. At the door is his mother, a bright woman with red hair, who some may recognize as Minako.]
You forgot your lunch, silly boy. [Saying this, she holds up a paper lunch bag. With a smile.]
Oh...that would have been bad. [Minato doesn't exactly sound enthusiastic. At this, the mother takes a more admonishing stance.]
Yes, really. A boy like you can't afford to skip a meal. Not when you're nearly skin-and-bones.
[For some reason, Minato finds that funny. She really has no idea. He chuckles.]
Hmm. You're right. [Taking his lunch, he puts on his best smile.] Thanks. And see ya.
[His mother smiles right back.]
[His mother smiles right back.]
Have fun at school. And for goodness sake, don't slouch. It isn't proper, and your poor back will be complaining to you more when you're older.
[And he's off. Run into him?]
[school; music room]
[In the middle of one hall comes the melancholic sound of a violin. Peek inside one of the rooms, and you'll find a certain blue-haired boy practicing alone.
It seems Minato chose the music club this year. Bother him? Tell him he's good or sucks?]
[852 Goldberg Street]
[Well, this had to happen sooner or later. Taking a deep breath, Minato approaches the house and knocks on the door.]
[Phone; Evening]
What are you dressing up as for Halloween?
14th Persona
Sep. 7th, 2011 07:40 pm[action; town; morning]
[Welp, with Labor Day having passed by, today is now the official start of school. For Minato, this means he is now a senior! How sweet is that?
Only problem? His sleep schedule.
So now a certain sleepy-head protag is running with all his might. All he can think is thank god for Track Team. Hope you're not in his path.]
[action; school]
[Of course, a new school year means a new classroom. With new faces as well as some familiar old ones. Typically, he spent most classes sleeping, but with lunch rolling around hey now's your chance to start a conversation.]
[action; cosplay cafe; after school]
[Anyone visiting the cosplay cafe today will be greeted by a new maid. A cutie with blue hair, and the most adorable deadpan expression. This new employee looks none-too-pleased to be here, but that just adds more appeal. As for the costume, it's not bad, if you're into maids at least. For some reason this one has donned headphones as an accessory, which is odd but no less cute. All-in-all, the perfect image of moemoe...until he speaks.]
Welcome.

[Yes, it's none other than Minato. Were you surprised?]

[That strange feeling - he had woken up to it again. Something similar to a reversal, but a better term would be "empty". As if a bond had just...disappeared.
He had felt it strongly the other morning, the day he found Souji at the flower shop speaking about his girlfriend, in a typical 50s greaser fashion.
Concerned, Minato got up from the bed, waking up their cat Coco-san, who just murred and climbed onto Minato's head. As they came downstairs, he found Minako in the kitchen, wearing an apron and getting breakfast ready. Was she trying to play "mother" again? Ah, whatever. He'd play along.
After only a few minutes of conversation, Minato left the kitchen with no food, for once. He wasn't hungry anymore, feeling his stomach churn for a different reason. Bangs covered his eyes, shielding most of his expression.]
[Phone]
To all of Souji and Minako-chan's acquaintances, both of them have been droned.
[Phone: filtered to Persona users*]
Let's have another meeting. Now that some of us have our Personas back, we need to start discussing some real strategy.
[action: general store]
[Having barely scrounged up enough money (paying for those burgers was expensive), Minato can be seen stacking his cart full of medical kit supplies. Bandaids, gauzes, ointments. With no Somas or Chewing Souls around, they'd have to make due with what was available.]
*(OOC: Persona-users filter would be Elizabeth, Chie, Yosuke, Kanji, Rise, Adachi, Shana...and Souji, and Minako, and Aigis, and even Mitsuru.)

Damage report. Is everyone alright?
[action]
( In which Minato is Jesus )
[Later, the two of them can be seen leaving the general store, the girls' knee now bandaged.]
I'm feeling a lot better now. Thanks Mister!
[She smiles.]
You're welcome. Be more careful next time.
You're not gonna tattle on me, are you? Mommy's gonna scold me if she finds out I was running again.
[She's looking down as she says this. Of course, Minato just winks.]
Nah. This will be our secret.
Really? Okay! Thank you Mister, bye-bye!
[Waving, she runs off to her home, returning to her normal Mayfield life.]

Hello, Arisato here.
I owe some of you an apology for last night.
[Phone; to Elizabeth]
Come over to my house.
[ooc: Takes place the day after the party. Basically, in the latter half of the party Minato got drunk (thanks to Minako) and hit on a couple of women, Ryoji-style instead of his discreet style. Including a few close friends. ...yup, awkward.]
