JOHN EDDIE - st LP 86

Image

Per Discogs:  Real Name:  John Edward Cummings Jr.

Profile:  John Eddie (born John Edward Cummings Jr. on July 9, 1959 in Richmond, Virginia) is an American rock singer. He originally formed The Front Street Runners band in 1981 and regularly played in clubs in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York until signing with Columbia records and releasing his first album in 1986. He was dropped by Columbia after his second album failed to chart in 1989 and was then picked up by Elektra Records in the early 1990s. The album he recorded for Elektra, "Still in the Same Cage", was never released by the label and he was once again dropped by his record company. In the mid-1990's, John formed Lost American Thrill Show Records and released several albums and EPs under that label until being picked up by Nashville-based Lost Highway in the early 2000s. His musical sound has recently trended towards country and away from rock with his most recent album release.

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Going to add this in to collector's series because for my Jesus Music Theme here it rises above and builds to a frenzy in the last couple songs that sounded pretty punk rock to me.

CLAUDIA LENNEAR - PHEW! LP 73

Image

Per Discogs:  Claudia Lennear (also rendered as Linnear and Lenier when she appeared on Stephen Stills' albums) is an American soul singer. Claudia Lennear has worked with many acts including Ike and Tina Turner, Humble Pie and Joe Cocker. She was part of a trio of backup singers for Delaney and Bonnie, that also included Rita Coolidge. Lennear's meetings with Mick Jagger and David Bowie are often cited as inspiration for The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" (1971) and Bowie's "Lady Grinning Soul" (1973). NME editors Roy Carr and Charles Shaar Murray noted in 1981 that she was "yet to reply in song to either Mick or David". However, in a 1973 article in Rolling Stone, she was quoted as saying that she wrote the song "Not At All" "to inform Mick Jagger of his dispensability". Claudia Lennear was one of Leon Russell's Shelter People. She sang back-up vocals on Joe Cocker's 1970 Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and live album, on Leon Russell and the Shelter People, released in 1971 and on George Harrison's The Concert for Bangla Desh.

In 1973, Lennear recorded a solo album of her own (her one and only) entitled Phew! (tracks 1,2 & 4 with Ry Cooder)

JIM KWESKIN - RELAX YOUR MIND LP 65

Jim is an American musician and band leader and also had a jug band that featured Maria Muldaur from "Midnight At The Oasis" fame.  This little curiosity I found last Sunday at Goodwill and completely intrigued me so I had to pull it out for a rip.  Quite good IMO

LORD BUCKLEY - THE BEST OF LP 69

Image

Found this past weekend at Goodwill....I know about "the Nazz" from back then it seemed familiar to me.  Here is the Discog skinny:  Real Name: Richard Myrle Buckley

Profile: US comedian, and raconteur.

Born: 5 April 1906 in Toulumne, California, USA.

Died: 12 November 1960 in Columbus Hospital, New York, USA (aged 54).

Ground-breaking American hip comedian, raconteur & stand-up, who recounted his view of incidents from history and mythology with a patois that blended scat-singing, black jive-talk, and the King's English. All this whilst often wearing a pith helmet, robes, or dinner suit, and chain-smoking or preening his waxed Dali-esque moustache.

A self-proclaimed 'Lord' and six-foot-six, larger-than-life funster, who had a great time with other people's money, drunk like he had a thirst you could photograph and courted anything that owned a handbag.

Buckley worked the San Francisco club circuits like "The Hungry I" and "Purple Onion", which also featured such talent as Mort Saul, Dick Gregory, and Lenny Bruce. He also performed at "The Gate Of Horn" in Chicago.

He never really made the grade into films, but did appear in "We're Not Married" (1952), starring Fred Allen, Ginger Rogers, and Marilyn Monroe. He also had a walk-on part in Stanley Kubrick's "Spartacus" (1960).

Buckley died shortly after having his 'Cabaret Card' permit confiscated by the vice squad on a raid of the "Jazz Gallery" in New York in October 1960. Stress, caused by the loss and his penurious state, apparently led to a stroke and kidney-failure.

Demon Fuzz - Afreaka! CD 70

Image

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  Per Discogs:  Afro-rock group which was formed in 1968 and broke up in 1972.  Its members had all immigrated to Britain from Commonwealth countries. The band's name means "devil's children or bad policemen". They originally played soul and Blue Beat with Howard Joseph as Blue Rivers & The Maroons, but the music they heard during a trip to Morocco lead to a change in their style to what has been described as a blend of funk, rock, jazz and African music. Their album, Afreaka!, has become a popular source for sampling.
