We can’t wait to move with you

INDIE is a regular, open contemporary dance class for independent artists and practitioners aged 18+. We recognised a need to manifest a space that supports the deeply diverse dance scene in Nipaluna/Hobart; INDIE was developed to be a practice where our amazing local artists can continue to hone their skills and connect with their community.

INDIE IS FOR:

Independent movement practitioners and professional artists aged 18+
Dance artists, Directors, Actors, Yogis, Improvisors, Martial Artists, and anyone curious about the language of the moving body.
Young people 18+ interested in studying dance performance
DRILL Senior Company members 18+

Whether you’re just beginning your journey or have been moving for years, we’re inviting you into a new class designed to support your practice in a fresh, expansive way.

This is not just a class, it’s a space. A space to drop into your body, explore different artistic and somatic practices, and engage with a community of fellow movers.

Classes are $15 per class. You can pay on the day (cash or card) or pay in advance in the DRILL STORE below - see the links and the sign up form below.

DRILL is committed to accessibility in the arts and we try to make Indie as affordable as possible. If you’re an independent artist who would like to join, but the fee is a barrier, please reach out to us at contact@drillperformance.com.

Hi Indie Movers!

I hope everyone has had a restful time over the festive period and is feeling refreshed for the new year ahead!

Let’s chat Indie 😊

Over the past year I have been trying to define what Indie is and who is looking for a space like Indie.
What I have landed on is that people are wanting a place where they can access:
·        An open contemporary dance class that is somewhat challenging
·        A place that is not attached to a dance school
·        An adult only space that reflects the busy nature of adult lives
·        A place to come to if you used to dance or are a dancer now
·        A place to sweat and move the body
·        A space where the challenge matches your experience
·        Inclusive peers that do not judge how high your ‘arabesque’ is
·        A space for returning Dance Uni students

Personally, when I first arrived here in Nipaluna I was desperately seeking a non-commercial studio that reflected the values above. I was longing for a place like the open classes at Chunky Move, Sydney Dance Company, Lucy Guieren, and Dance Makers Collective, and I want DRILL to be a place that can provide this for our community.
It may take some time to reach the people that need this, and who are looking for it.
We want to build a solid, supportive community here in Nipaluna/Hobart, so we’re asking that you share with your people that are dance teachers, adults that used to dance and want to come back to it, people that are keen to sweat, extend their skills and want an open contemporary dance class that requires no performance, no competition, no dance school rules.
