Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO)

NASA operates e.root-servers.org, one of the thirteen logical Internet Root name servers. NASA cooperates with the eleven other Root Server Operators to provide authoritative data for the DNS Root Zone. The E-Root Server system is operated by the Network and Telecommunication Services (NaTS) service line under the NASA Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) .

E-Root receives DNS queries over IPv4 at 192.203.230.10 and over IPv6 at 2001:500:A8::E.

The Domain Name System is a distributed hierarchical database of resource records that permit (among other things) the translation of hostnames into IP addresses and vice versa. The root of this hierarchy is anchored on 13 domain name servers scattered across the globe. E-Root uses IP Anycast to provide service from a number of locations throughout the world which may change from time to time.

The root operators collect and publish root server system metrics in accordance with RSSAC-002, the RSSAC Advisory on Measurements of the Root Server System . The E-root RSSAC-002 data is published daily.

NASA, as the operator of the root nameserver "E", recognizes the following organizations as current root nameserver operators and endeavors to coordinate operational service with them:
