We're fairly divided on whether or not to be members only across the board or members only for posting, but not viewing.

I would appreciate it if you all would start some discussion on this. I'd like to hear everyone's ideas behind their position so that I can better determine what is best for this community. I will tell you right now that I *personally* am leaning toward members only across the board, because of the fact that this community is intended to be a safe place for sharing everything about our life, christian and otherwise. But I'm going to make a decision based on what the COMMUNITY wants, so depending on the points that are made, we may end up being open to all viewers but posting available to members only.

I will also be requiring an application to be submitted for review when someone wants to be a member, similar to the one I have at [community profile] girlybits but a little more involved. I feel like moderating our membership here has a lot more at risk than over at [community profile] girlybits.

Please post a comment on this entry with your thoughts on whether or not we should be a private community. If you don't feel comfortable sharing them out in the open, you can also send me a message. If you send me a message, I'll share your thoughts with the community without sharing who you are. :)

Progress...

I'm getting some awesome feedback through the poll I posted yesterday! Firstly, I am quite encouraged to find there are Christ-followers at Dreamwidth! I didn't even realize! When my friend [personal profile] enalon and I started this community, I really wasn't expecting it to go anywhere. Now I am inspired to pray for more members! ;) (Why is it we always forget to talk to God about the little things?? As if He's not interested in a little community of believers on Dreamwidth?)

If you haven't yet voted in the poll, please take some time to do so. It will help me tremendously as I figure out how to structure our community. :)

Also, even though we haven't quite established our purpose, I think it's safe to say that we'd all like to know a little more about who's here! So please introduce yourself with a quick post - maybe tell us how you first met Jesus and what it is that keeps you in relationship with Him. :)

A quickie poll:

Poll #496 Privacy
Open to: Registered Users, detailed results viewable to: Just the Poll Creator, participants: 5

Do you think this community should be...

Members only: only members can view and post.
3 (60.0%)

Pseudo-members only: everyone can view but only members can post.
2 (40.0%)

Open: everyone can view and everyone can post.
0 (0.0%)

I will be posting a couple more polls in the next week or two, so that we can write some Community Guidelines together and better express our expectations to new members of this community. Be thinking about what shape you would personally like this community to take. Also, consider the kind of guidelines that will help keep this community SAFE, LOVING, and OPEN. :)

I am so looking forward to getting to know all of you better! ♥ <-- (and yes, I have a tendency to be a little ooshy-gooshy, touchy-feely sometimes. 9_9 If you think you have a personality that would balance that out a little bit, and you'd be willing to post on a fairly regular basis (once or twice a week), please message me and we can talk about adding you to the admin. I want to make sure we have a variety of "leaders" who can help round out admin for this community so we're more likely to attract all kinds of believers.)

I've been away on sabbatical from the nets in an effort to re-align my priorities. It seems to have worked but I can already tell I need to be careful, or I will be slipping right back into the place I was before (too much computer and not enough life).

I've never been a community maintainer before so I pretty much stink at pulling people together and getting them to interact. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for A.) promoting a community and B.) encouraging interaction?

I live in Oklahoma now, but I am originally from Mexico.

Even though 95% of Mexicans are Catholic I was born Episcopalian (basically same as catholic just without the worship of the Virgin Mary or the Saints). At the age of six my parents were introduced to Christianity and I accepted Jesus into my heart without really knowing what it was all about.

After a couple of years after that my parents divorced and us (the children) kept bouncing back and forth between several churches making it almost impossible to comprehend that Christianity was all about the relationship with Jesus.

At the age of 14 I came to America with my mom and younger brother and came to the church I am attending to right now, but at the same time I realized how interested I became towards the exact sciences and began a quiet process of atheism. It wasn't until I reached the bottom of the pit and after the insisting prayers of my youth pastor at the time that I met Him and He changed my life around.

Ever since I've been growing in my relationship. And I've also learned that the desire I had for science was there for a purpose, but this time is to proof how amazing our God is. As a born again Christian and a Bio Medical Chemistry student I would love to add any comments to Eden from the scientific side of our faith. And anybody can feel free to ask any questions, and with prayer and information I will try to answer them.

Love you all =D

I guess since I'm admin, I should introduce myself. :p

I've been "saved" since I was 6 years old but I didn't really surrender my life to God wholeheartedly until Summer 2003. I still look back on that time as my "honeymoon" with God. ;)

Within the past few months, I have really been coming to an awareness that I don't get it all right - and neither does anyone else. We're all trying to be friends with God and we do some things well and some things not-so-well. I take comfort in the fact that God is a God of diversity and He no doubt revels in every relationship He has with one of us, regardless of how "on-target" we might be in our daily life.

I have been married for 4 years this December and I'm a stay-at-home mom to my favorite little girl.

I love reading and eating and singing, but especially sleeping. ;) I'm very expressive and creative. I like people. I especially like people who A.) have lots in common with me or B.) inspire Original Thought <-- usually someone who's VERY different from me without being abrasively so.

I started this community because I realized that I'm very much in the minority here (as far as having a relationship with Jesus) and I thought it might be a neat way to discover other siblings in Christ at Dreamwidth. :)
