Supports for Daily Living
Supports for Daily Living for individuals with autism or I/DD who live in independent housing
Live life on your own terms
Our supported independent living program offers a range of services to help young adults navigate the complexities of daily life — like managing time, handling finances, or maintaining routines.
Our approach focuses on working with the individual instead of doing everything for them, so they can acquire new skills and gain confidence in the process.

FAQs
How is this program different from traditional group homes?
Group home models are “provider-controlled”: this means the staff takes all the decisions and also does most of the cooking, cleaning, and shopping for their residents. This prevents individuals with disabilities from learning and practicing skills that could help them become more independent.
Our approach is different: instead of taking over, we help participants do these daily tasks themselves – so they can become more independent each day. Our “do with” versus “do for” approach ensures that the individuals we help are involved every step of the way. It’s their life, they choose how they want to live it, and our well-trained SIL staff are there to nudge and guide them along.
How many hours per day is staff available?
The individual and their circle of support choose the staff support hours. For individuals with increased medical and supervision needs, supports are available up to 24 hours per day.
Does the supported living program pay for rent, utilities, and food?
No. Individuals enrolled in the program are responsible for their personal bills. Our staff can support with budgeting and money management so participants don’t fall behind on rent, utilities and other bills.
If you are looking to rent an apartment or apply for rent vouchers, we recommend you consider our Housing Supports Services.
Is the program right for someone transitioning from group home to independent living?
Certainly! We can provide similar supports one receives in the group home, but in a less restrictive way where participants get to make their own choices.
When moving out of a group home, the first step is to find housing. We can also help to find work and create a budget to pay for daily expenses.
If you’re looking to live more independently, you may want to explore our Smart Living program. Smart Living apartments are tech-enabled homes in vibrant communities, and come with remote or drop-in assistance as needed.
The supported living program kicks in as soon as someone moves into their home.
