Summer time fun....

ImageYes, we are still alive!  I just took a short break from the blog world.  Not for any special reason.  Just got in a funk I guess.  But I'm back and ready to document the Davis family happenings.  Summer started and we are enjoying the break of school.  Although- I think I'm looking forward to when the kids are back in a routine and  not wanting to know what we are doing everyday.  Anyways- we have been doing lots of fun day trips and stuff this summer.  We made it to the train museum.  We asked Scot what was the one thing he wanted to do this summer and he said- The Train Museum.  So, that's what we did.

We also did something none of us have ever done before.  We decided to take the nice man on the back of the horse up on his offer and ride around old town.  It was so great.  The look on the kids faces were the best.  It was truly awesome and something I wish we had done before.  Who knew being pulled around by a horse next to lots of cars going by would be so fun!

and we also went into some fun stores in old town.  The kids were exposed to some interesting "culture" I guess you could say.  It was a fun day but I have to admit- I was glad to get back to "my part of the woods  where I feel safe and secure :)  We did return home after we made a trip to the extremely large and kinda freaky candy store.

Talent... and a trip to the E.R.

Am I the only one totally In LOVE with Pinterest? I found a great organization idea on Pinterest that I loved. It was basically a garage locker for the kids to hang their coats, backpacks, umbrellas, etc., and use for all kinds of storage. I loved it so much that I showed Elliot how nice it was and told him how great it would be to have some place for all the kids stuff. Well.... I literally could see the wheels turning in his mind and before I knew it- he was drawing up the plans and getting ready to build us some storage lockers in the garage.

Image Isn't it fancy? He once again has exceeded my expectations. Not only is it functional- but it is very beautiful as well. I'd say you could hire him... but believe me- I have found a WHOLE bunch of things on Pinterest that will be keeping that guy busy. :)

******************************************
I do have to document this though... especially now that we can look back and laugh about it.
On Saturday night (after work) Ell was making one of his last cuts with his chop saw in the garage. I was in the house (all the way in the back) and I heard him come in the house. For some reason I came in the kitchen (where he was) just to see what was going on and check if he was finished. I found him there- hovered over the sink with the water running and he told me that he had cut his finger. I rubbed his back and tried to check his finger but as I did this- his legs gave out and he completely passed out and fell to the floor. I totally thought he was messing around and at first didn't take him serious. However, on his way down -he hit his head on the cupboard. He was out of it for a good 3-4 minutes which totally scared me to death. I was doing EVERYTHING I could to get him to wake up. I was very concerned because he had hit his head so hard. I was yelling at him, and squeezing his arm, and put a wet towel on his head but nothing was working. He was completely lifeless. I even called 911 and when they finally answered- he woke up (Thankfully). Talk about scary! His finger was cut real bad but luckily didn't touch the bone.
We decided to take a trip to the E.R. just to make sure all was okay with his head and finger. Things were fine and they cleaned up his finger real well and then gave him the best wrap job ever.
It was a scary situation.... but the sweetest thing through it all was that during all the chaos at home while Ell was unconscious- I had told Macie and Scot to go watch TV so they wouldn't have to witness what was going on. Later that evening when we were home from the E.R.- Scot told us that he had said a prayer to Heavenly Father to help his dad be okay. I know that Heavenly Father answered my sweet little boys prayer and I am so grateful that Scot knew who to turn to for help. We are extremely blessed.

surgery "fun"...

Because of the kidney stones that decided to invade my body in August, it was discovered that I had hyperparathyroidism. Which in Kelly terms means: the parathyroid gland was overactive causing my body to produce too much calcium. So, because of that little gland being overactive- I have been enjoying the wonderful side effect..... kidney stones.

Well, in March I underwent a parathyroidectomy. I was very nervous about the surgery... probably because I researched too much info on the Internet about the surgery, as well as concentrated on the "possible things that could go wrong" speech from my doctor.

I was told I could be in the hospital for 2-7 days and that it would take about 2 weeks for recovery.

I am very grateful to say that things went PERFECTLY and I was out of the hospital the next day. The doctor was so pleased with the results. My calcium levels dropped to normal which was exactly what they were hoping for. I was also told the incision would be a lot larger and higher than it ended up being.

I could not be any happier and I am SO thankful for skilled doctors and nurses, as well as a wonderful husband, family and friends. Seriously- we were brought meals all week and were majorly spoiled. It was hard to get back into the routine of things after all the "spoiledness" :)

Below are pictures from the procedure:

#1) Right after surgery

#2) 4 days after surgery

#3) 12 days after surgery

Sea Ranch Heaven...

It has been 7 years (Yes- you read right).... 7 years since we have been to Sea Ranch.

Schedules, health, and everything else have gotten in the way. But this year my family made Sea Ranch a PRIORITY. It was a much needed vacation and we were ALL ready to begin.

Image

This view pretty much says it all. This place is so relaxing. The kids love the tide pools (they call them tadpoles) and I just love the sound of the waves hitting the rocks.

It is a win-win for grown-ups and kids.

Image
The house we rented this year was definitely a keeper. It was great for my parents, Jody and her family and us Davis'.

Image

A lot of time was spent dong absolutely nothing... which was PERFECT.

Exactly what we all wanted.

Image

Image Games were played often, although electronics were brought out every once in a while too :)

Image Lunch at The Cliff House could not have been beat. There were a lot of happy tummy's after that meal.
Image
Outside the restaurant was a fabulous tree (Scot and Elliots dream climbing tree to be exact). We lost them for awhile because they were having way too much fun.

There were a lot of pictures taken of happy, relaxed people....

Image

ImageImageImageImageImageImage There was beach going, rock climbing, abalone finding, hole digging,

and just plain old having fun and hanging out.

Image We found a fun looking church....

Image

Image That doubled as a hat too.

Image Sea Ranch.... oh how I have missed you. Thank you for living up to the expectations that I remembered. You surely did not disappoint.

Til next time.

school festivities...

The kids have been hard at work on different school projects.....

Image

Ellie has been devoting a lot of her time to her Sacagawea report. At first she had to write a report with a timeline about a character... and she chose Sacagawea. Then her class decided to do a living wax museum which was BRILLIANT. It also served as a fundraiser for the 5th grade field trips. Each student had to dress in character and decorate a background and bring props, as well as a money jar. On the night of the event- they had to recite a little blurp about themselves when someone put money into their jar. Then they froze until the next person inserted money. It was great and they earned a good amount for their school. Ellie did a fabulous job and we are very proud of our little Sacagawea.

Image

Macie was assigned to do a family project and decorate a house that belonged to little red riding hood, the three little pigs or the big bad wolf. Macie decided to do little red riding hoods grandmas house. It could be no larger than a tissue box. Elliot created the house out of cardboard and Macie and I tiled the roof, painted the house and added all the little accessories.

Image It was a great little project and I have to say I think I like Kindergarten projects.

It was right up our families creative alley :)

Image Scot was given this hat to decorate for the 100th day of school. They were told to decorate it with any object they wanted ~ there just had to be 100 of them. Well, our big man who is REALLY into Star Wars right now decided he needed to have 100 Darth Mauls on his hat. So we cut and pasted a bunch of those evil guys.... and Scot was in heaven. He was one happy hat wearer.

That's it for school projects right now.

Although I'm sure there will be more around the corner ...

Little bowlers....

Last month we surprised the kids by taking them to the Bowling Alley.

Scot was the only one out of the kids who had ever bowled (unless you count bowling on the wii) :) Image

They were very excited (Can you tell?)

Image

Scot was a little pro and had great form.

ImageBowling came very natural to Ellie too..

Imageand then there was Macie. The little hurricane that she is was everywhere. She was slipping and sliding all over the floor. When she went up to bowl- she would throw it as hard as she could and it would take about 15 minutes to get down. It was so hilarious. She made us all laugh quite hard the whole time.

Image These kids are just the funnest little bowlers around.

Image

Elliot (of course) got the high score of the game.... but we all had a great time

Image and we'll be back
